Position: Server and Network Administrator at Temple University

Information Technology Services seeks a Server and Network Administrator to join the team responsible for:

  • Administering servers and network.
  • Provide support for computer labs and various systems.
  • Provide second-level technical support for Helpdesk.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Administer and maintain VMware vCenter environment, ensuring high availability and performance.
  2. Maintain and monitor assigned systems to ensure optimal performance, to determine system upgrade/replacement schedules, and meet established Service Level Agreement (SLA) commitments.
  3. Manage and troubleshoot Network infrastructure.
  4. Deploy, maintain, and optimize Windows Servers.
  5. Design, and implement group policies to enhance system security and performance.
  6. Utilize Microsoft Graphs and PowerBI for reporting and automation tasks.
  7. Provide basic Linux support, predominantly with Debian and Ubuntu distributions.
  8. Deliver high-quality L2 desktop support to end-users, resolving hardware and software issues.
  9. Collaborate with local IT teams on training, projects, system upgrades, and new technology evaluations.
  10. Collaborate with IT teams based in Pennsylvania, USA ( UTC-4 ). Monthly or Bi-monthly based on need.
  11. Document processes, procedures, configurations, and ensure they remain up-to-date.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Being approachable by users of all IT skill levels with a customer service mindset
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Be able to arrive at the Tokyo Campus within 3 hours (Emergencies only, team shared responsibility)
  • Fluent in English with conversational Japanese

Preferred Qualification & Experience

  • Ability to communicate in Japanese to escalate issues to outside vendors.
  • Experience working in an academic institution.
  • Familiar with AWS EC2 and Lambda
  • Familiar with SharePoint Online.
  • Familiar with PowerShell, PowerAutomate, Bash scripting
  • Experience with device management using Microsoft Intune.
  • Experience with device management using Jamf for MacOS and iOS devices.

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week; From Monday to Friday (Some work on Saturday, Sunday, and out-of-office hours may be required)

Report to: IT Operations Manager

Visa Requirement: Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) can sponsor visa for highly qualified candidates.

Salary & benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience, plus transportation.
  • Eleven (11) days paid vacation in the first fiscal year (July-June) increasing to 20 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal and sick days” each year. In addition, approximately two weeks of company-wide break over Christmas/New Year, Japanese social insurance, pension, commuting allowance, and tuition benefits for Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) programs.
  • Possibility of partial remote work with some flexibility in work-shift.
