Since 1994, Temple University Beasley School of Law has offered a practical-based legal education at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) located in Tokyo. Temple Law School is the only U.S. law school accredited by the American Bar Association that operates year-round in Japan. Students have the opportunity to study in the LL.M. degree programs, non-degree certificate programs, or the J.D. spring semester abroad program for U.S. law school students.

The Study Abroad and Activities Assistant provides clerical and other support for the Beasley School of Law, Japan Campus (Tokyo) staff to ensure the effective running of the J.D. study abroad program as well as coordinating student activities and professional events for legal practitioners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with recruiting and coordinating all aspects of the study abroad program, including helping international students and visiting faculty with pre-departure and post-arrival matters, such as obtaining visas, housing, work permits, bank accounts, and ward office visits.
  • Communicate with prospective students and assist them with the study abroad application process, including coordinating with the Main Campus and other schools.
  • Plan and chaperone extracurricular student activities and program events.
  • Coordinate the internship program, including contacting employers, handling student resumes, coordinating interviews and posting job alerts.
  • Assist the director and collaborate with other departments on any administrative tasks.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Japanese, business level preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • Willing to work shift hours including Saturdays
  • Excellent PC (Word, Excel and PowerPoint; graphics a plus) and database skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, dependable, highly organized and a good team player in a small team setting while also being able to work flexibly and independently

Department: Beasley School of Law, Temple University, Japan Campus

Report to: Director of Law School Programs

Work Hours: Regular Hours (5 days / week, 19-25 hours / week): Set Work Time/Hours Negotiable Monday to Friday
Option for telework/flex hours one day per week.

Additional Hours: Occasional late weekday evenings or Saturday work for student activities and professional events.

Visa Requirement: This position is only available to applicants who are eligible to work in Japan. The position does not include visa sponsorship.

Salary & Benefits: Salary commensurate with experience, plus transportation.
