Sakae Institute of Study Abroad is a Japanese educational consulting agency. Its mission is to provide information, private counseling and placement services for Japanese students who wish to pursue education at American educational institutions. Since its founding in 1972, it has helped more than five thousand students study and graduate from American boarding high schools, colleges/universities, and graduate schools.

SISA’s US Office, Sakae Institute – USA, located in Brookline, MA is in charge of coordinating several summer ESL programs, supporting the Tokyo and Osaka offices, organizing school tours, and conducting follow-up services for students. This task involves monitoring program plans, schedules, budgets and expenditures, and collaborating with staff members to ensure the implementation and success of programs.

To be successful as a Program Coordinator, you will need to be able to work on tight deadlines, be competent in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel, and have exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills. A bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, International Relations, or related field of study and at least three years of relevant experience is required for consideration.

Program Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Analyze students’ needs and design the education program based on the existing program curriculum
  • Design and develop program strategies.
  • Maintaining and monitoring program schedules, budgets and expenditures.
  • Organizing, attending and participating meetings with program site managers and directors.
  • Assess project risks and issues, provide solutions where applicable.
  • Visit program sites to hold the orientations. (Travel required during summer, and drivers license required)
  • Collaborate with the Director to hire program assistants and interns, monitor your staff members’ workloads and hours, coordinate their schedules
  • Seek feedback from program site managers
  • Evaluate the program goal and objectives

Other Duties Include:

  • Initiate planning and updating of Sakae Boston Academic English (BAE) Online program curriculum
  • Instruct students weekly in Sakae BAE Online program
  • Identify and recruit additional instructors for Sakae BAE Online program
  • Provide advising and guidance to potential and current international students regarding academic, social and general inquiries
  • Assist as needed in admissions counseling and follow-up sessions
  • Research undergraduate and graduate programs in the US
  • Edit and translate admissions documents, marketing materials and publications
  • Maintain online updates, such as Facebook and staff blog for periodical reports
  • Other duties on day-to-day operation of the US office Program Coordinator

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling Psychology, International Relations, or related field of study
  • At least three years of experience working with international students
  • Experience working in educational programs/ camps
  • Ability to multitask, both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize, meet deadlines, make rational decisions, and function as part of a team.
  • The ability to present/facilitate workshops and or the willingness to learn
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for effective program administration.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines
  • Conversational Japanese and Business Level English, required to communicate daily with counselors in local office in Tokyo
  • Fluent in a variety of computer tasks (including competency in Microsoft applications including Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge in file management, transcription and other administrative procedures
  • Have deep interests in international education
  • Previous work experience in Japan is a plus
  • Previous experience studying abroad preferred
