Based in Washington, DC, the Alumni Coordinator will be part of a team that administers the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The YES Inbound program annually provides scholarships for up to 900 high school students from approximately 40 countries with significant Muslim populations to spend an academic year in the U.S. Students live with host families, attend high school, engage in activities to learn about American society and values, acquire leadership skills, and help educate Americans about their countries and cultures. The Alumni Coordinator will be the primary contact for alumni programming for the YES Consortium and will report to the YES Program Manager.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate alumni activities for the YES Consortium. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Liaise with YES Consortium partners;
  • Coordinate a Consortium-wide calendar of major alumni events such as conferences and webinars
  • Report on Alumni success stories for inclusion in reports and social media (solicit, edit, and format) on a timely basis;
  • Consult with Consortium partners on planning and implementation of worldwide or regional alumni conferences (content and logistics including participant selection);
  • Track alumni activities to ensure events meet State Department priorities;
  • Oversee the Alumni Small Grants competition (application design, selection, review applications, provide feedback to applicants, work with partners to implement all aspects of the competition, and collection, review, and processing of post-project financial and narrative reports)
  • Coordinate alumni participation in DC Orientation, Civic Education Workshops, End of Program Workshops and other YES related events;
  • Gather, edit, and format information on alumni activities from YES Consortium partners on a monthly basis for inclusion in the quarterly and final reports;
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of DC Orientation, Civic Education Workshops, End of Program Workshops and other YES related events;
  • Act as a trainer for YES program workshops, conferences, webinars, and other events;
  • Respond in a timely manner to ECA taskers in cooperation with other YES staff;
  • Use and update the alumni database;
  • Update the Manager and Vice-President on a regular basis on alumni activities;
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Fluent English speaking and writing skills required;
  • Three years of experience working with international exchange students required, and experience working with Department of State exchange programs preferred;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required;
  • Experience working with high school students preferred;
  • Superior organizational skills including proven success in tracking large amounts of data and information;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities quickly and effectively;
  • Ability to analyze challenges and develop suitable, innovative approaches;
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to an overall team effort;
  • Computer skills, including strong knowledge of Excel, as well as experience with databases;
  • Experience with social media and implementation of social media campaigns preferred;
  • Familiarity with cultures, languages, and geography of YES program countries;
  • Strong commitment to the program and mission;
  • BA in relevant field (e.g. language, education, area studies).
