Description:
The Assistant Director for Systems Compliance works with the International
Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) Director and staff to ensure the
university systems used by ISSS are designed adequately and function
properly for immigration compliance with the Department of Homeland
Security (DHS) and the Department of State (DoS). This position works with
minimal supervision to monitor regulatory changes; prioritizes and
communicates their impact on university?s systems; and manages projects
for successful interface with the SEVIS system of (DHS). Considerable
authority is delegated to this position for systems analysis and business
process review, ensuring DHS SEVIS compliance. This position develops and
maintains ISSS web and Share Point resources and the office social media
outreach, and advises students and scholars.

The Assistant Director collaborates with colleges, departments, academic
units and the SEVIS help desk to identify, document and report
irregularities and recommends policies and procedures that ensure both the
university and its F1 and J1 non immigrant populations are in compliance.
This position provides project support to the Director on various systems,
including business process improvements, implementation of new
applications and modifications. This includes working on projects to
gather, analyze, and document business requirements and performing
integration testing for system changes and upgrades.

This position is authorized by DHS as a Designated School Official for the
F-1 student program and DoS as an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J1
Exchange Visitor Program to access immigration records of students and
scholars in the SEVIS system. The Assistant Director is responsible for
staying current with regulatory and legislative updates affecting F1
students and J1 exchange visitors. The Assistant Director provides advice
on all legal aspects concerning work privileges, travel, program
extension, family matters, change of status, academic activities, personal
and cultural adjustment issues and other related matters, which affect the
international population in these categories.
Educational Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. A Master?s degree is preferred.
Minimum Requirements:
U.S. citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident Status (to comply with the
Department of State and Department of Homeland requirement for accessing
SEVIS system)
At least 5 years of professional work experience in project management,
system administration or business system analysis, and relational
databases, preferably in an academic setting
Ability to communicate technology concepts effectively with technically
proficient and non-technically proficient individuals
Web content management and social media or related experience
Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills
Excellent customer service, diplomatic and public relations skills
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Proven ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast paced
environment with attention to detail and accuracy
Preferred Requirements:
Current knowledge of non-immigrant (F-l) and exchange visitors (J -1)
regulations and procedures
Cross cultural competency and international living/learning experience
Experience working collaboratively and effectively with a diverse group of
students, faculty, and staff
Experience in advising/counseling/teaching international/multicultural
communities
1 or more years of Ellucian Colleague and SQL experience
Experience with report writing tools
