Position: Fully Funded Volunteer Teacher
Posted By: WorldTeach
Location: America Samoa
Status: Full Time

Summary: WorldTeach, a non-profit organization founded through Harvard University, is currently accepting applications for passionate individuals to serve as volunteer English teachers in our yearlong, fully funded programs in the Pacific Island of American Samoa. Applications will be accepted until October 15th, 2015 and volunteers will depart approximately at the beginning of January 2016.

Volunteers are full time English teachers in public high schools. While volunteers share their skills and knowledge with their students and communities, they also gain cultural understanding, foreign language skills, develop leadership experience, and learn how to be more adaptable and resourceful. The American Samoa Department of Education has sought out WorldTeach volunteers because there is a lack of licensed English teachers in American Samoa.

With 23 programs in 16 different countries, including year, semester, and summer programs, there are plenty of options to find a program that fits your skills and interests. WorldTeach offers excellent professional development and has more than 25 years of experience successfully preparing, training, placing, and supporting volunteers around the world. Funded and partially funded programs are available for yearlong and semester programs.

Our current yearlong programs are in American Samoa, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Pohnpei, Kosrae and Chuuk), Namibia, Tanzania, and Thailand. We also have semester programs in Namibia and Ecuador, and summer programs in China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Morocco, Namibia, Nepal, Poland and South Africa.

The American Samoa program is funded by their Department of Education, including round-trip international airfare from a designated U.S. departure city.

Qualifications: Applicants must be fluent in English and be between the ages of 18-73. For semester and yearlong programs, a bachelor’s degree is required at the time of departure. No teaching experience is necessary.

Benefits: Yearlong volunteers receive:

  • WorldTeach pre-departure literature and preparation
  • Comprehensive visa sponsorship and assistance in securing necessary work permits
  • Health & emergency evacuation insurance
  • Training comprising 3-4 week Orientation upon arrival, Mid Service Conference, and End of Service Conference
  • Meals and housing during orientation and conferences
  • Transportation between training and placement sites
  • Housing
  • Monthly stipend
  • Professional development through Teacher Quality Program, including mentorship by remote Teacher Quality Coordinator
  • Support from full time, in-country field staff

Application: Year program applications require a resume, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation, and a college/university transcript. Start your application on our website here, or email admissions@worldteach.org.
