Summary: The position of Quality Manager is a key player at TransPerfect Translations. This position reports into the Department Manager. Your particular language skill will allow you to finalize the end product before it goes to the client.

Responsibilities:

• Proofread all translated documents for grammar, punctuation and spelling errors
• Format all translated documents to mirror the original source document
• Give feedback to Project Manager regarding translated text in the form of a Q score
• Suggest subjective changes regarding style, smoothness, and feel of translated documents
• Utilize reference materials to maintain consistency across projects for individual clients
• Create glossaries for individual clients to complement reference materials
• Operate computer assisted translation (CAT) tools to improve efficiency
• Efficiently maintains formal disciplined operations procedures across a variety of client projects
• Track project-specific non-conformances and resolutions
• Assist with making new department processes while improving on existing ones (improve productivity, profitability)
• Maintain strong relationships with contract translators, editors, and proofreaders
• Investigate client complaints regarding translations – holding both freelance and full-time employees accountable
• Be responsible for any errors/omissions associated with their translation projects
• Track and report on company-wide quality metrics
• Juggle overlapping projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Perform other special projects or duties when required

Essential Skills and Experience (Required):

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent ideally in a language field
• Native English speaker with excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Japanese
• Ability to support multiple projects by keeping accurate and up-to-date project specs
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism in all situations, especially under tight deadlines
• Satisfactory results on company tests
• Minimum passing grade (subject to individual language) on appropriate foreign language test, as applicable

Essential Skills and Experience (Valued):

• Prior translation industry experience
• Experience with Trados or SDLX
