Overview: MIT is seeking an Assistant Dean for Global Education to be part of MIT Global Education & Career Development (GECD), a highly collaborative unit that helps students develop and implement their educational and career plans, participate in global experiences and to develop global-ready graduates. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Global Education and Prehealth Advising, this position assists in leading GECD Global Education team, oversees study abroad operations (including study abroad programs and services), contributes to efforts related to students’ health and safety abroad, manages the Horizons system and data more broadly, and provides day-to-day management of the Global Education Team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Day-to-day management for the Global Education Team, including the supervision of the Global Education Advisor and the Administrative Assistant, the administration of team policies and processes, and the management of information systems, data, publicity, publications, events, and the website.
  • Oversight of the study abroad operation, including study abroad programs (CME Program, departmental exchanges, faculty led programs, direct enrolment and provider programs) and all services (creating a pipeline of freshmen and sophomores likely to benefit from study abroad opportunities, student recruitment, admissions, student advising, programming, student approval, events, and program evaluations).
  • Direct management of the MIT-Madrid Program and departmental exchanges.
  • Collaboration with academic departments, partner offices engaged in global education and with other units around the Institute, and with foreign partners.
  • Delivery of information sessions and other programming for students.
  • Management of the Horizons system and of data, including Open Doors submissions, etc., and reports.
  • Partnering with academic and administrative units and with programs that provide global opportunities for undergraduates to improve level of support for and information on global opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree required (emphasis on international education, higher education administration or related field).
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible administrative experience required.
  • Prior experience developing and managing study abroad programs and advising students on study abroad or other international educational experiences desirable.
  • Proven record of administrative competence, project/program management experience and organizational skills required.
  • Proven record managing data and preparing reports required.
  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to create strong working relationships with faculty, staff and others.
  • Strong computer skills: must be proficient in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), email, and a database application.
  • Some travel required.
  • Experience living or studying abroad and working knowledge of one or more languages in addition to English highly desirable.
  • Experience designing and conducting programming such as information sessions, orientations, and workshops
  • Understanding the international education field, and current trends in study abroad

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$73,000, based on relevant experience.
