POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for building relationships to increase support from Strategic Partners in Japan and Korea, implements and manages a comprehensive fundraising plan (actually raises the money) to address community needs. Strong faciliative and strategic leadership skills along with ability to build relationships, drive funding priorities, focus on business development and expand relationships across the corporate platform. Partner with local United Ways to determine strategies and techniques with the appropriate information to help ensure our customers achieve the desired results and to provide necessary information and data to those United Ways to help them achieve their community goals. Identifies emerging business leadership and industry trends and develops corporate alliances to solicit large philanthropic commitments. Based in Tokyo, Japan but frequent domestic and international travel will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION: An individual must be able to perform each essential duty listed below at a satisfactory level:

– Works to increase support for local United Ways in Japan and Korea from corporate partners.
– Works to further the understanding of the increasing need for civic society to play a bigger role in community welfare through employee giving and volunteerism.
– Tracks and disseminates to Strategic Partners in the region knowledge and best practices regarding fundraising and community impact.
– Designs, implements, and manages a comprehensive fund development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining corporate and foundation monetary support. That plan must, among others things, establish and maintain a directory and evaluation of the main companies presence within the region, with emphasis on Global Corporte Leaders, including countries where they are established, their regional headquarters, volume of sales, number of employees and any other relevant information.
– Identifies emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing meaningful corporate alliances and identify, evaluate, cultivate and solicit substantive philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of United Way.
– Creates opportunities to build awareness among corporate and foundation constituencies in order to build and significantly expand positive fundraising relationships.
– Identifies key individuals within corporations and foundations and review corporate profiles that suggest potential relationships owing to common interests or objectives.
– Develops new approaches to foundations and corporations and coordinate these contacts to initiate the cultivation/fundraising process.
– Monitors proposal deadlines & manage proposal submissions through the means of a comprehensive prospecting and outreach calendar.
– Develops competitive, high quality proposals for corporate and foundation prospects. Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts with corporate and foundation representatives, creating moves management plans related to them.
– Develops and maintain compelling presentations and tailored information kits for funding prospects.
– Maintains a high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospects and donors; ensure the timely delivery of quality reports and evaluations.
– Plans and organizes conferences, seminars and workshops in Japan and Korea as and when required.
– Works closely with the Central Community Chest of Japan leadership to maximize synergy of development throughout Japan and consolidate individual or regional relations with corporations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum requirements include a bachelor degree with at least five years of progressive experience in a similar role, and at least three years of experience in a leadership role. Fluency in English and Japanese. Working knowledge in Korean will be an advantage.
