The Council is headquartered in Washington, D.C. with offices in Los Angeles and Tokyo and is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Accounting Department in the Washington, DC office.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Position Description Reporting to the Director of Finance and Administration, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in leading and supporting for all areas of accounting, financials and administration. In addition, position will assist management with the annual audit as required and support the implementation of the new ERP system.

Principal Responsibilities

  • The Senior Accountant will be responsible for the maintenance, compliance, and reporting related to financial reporting with restricted funding, including, but not limited to compliance with GAAP, IRS, State compliance reporting, budgets, and effective financial analysis for management.
  • Responsible for monthly and annual financial closings
  • Responsible for monthly General Ledger account reconciliations. Resolve account discrepancies by following established procedures
  • Assist in implementation of the new financial accounting system
  • Maintain, update and document for all compliance filings and external auditors
  • Responsible for the reconciliation on the shared services transaction with the US Japan Council Japan
  • Lead in in the research and expeditious resolution of internal and external inquiries.
  • Assist with the annual financial statement, A-133, and benefit plan audits
  • Responsible for deliverables of PBC deliverables to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • This position will work closely with the DC and Tokyo Administrative Assistant, Development Director and Program Managers to ensure all documentation for designated gifts has been obtained, is properly recorded, and satisfies audit requirements.
  • He/she will manage the accounting and compliance implications of new restrictive funded programs as they arise.
  • Assists with additional projects as requested by the Director of Financial Accounting and Administration.

Additional Duties Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Education, Skill and Experience Requirements

  • BS in Accounting or related field and 3 – 5 years accounting experience required.
  • Public or non-profit accounting experience and/or CPA considered a plus.
  • Substantial computer literacy required, including knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Points and Visio.
  • Experience with QuickBooks, and Microsoft GP Dynamics Accounting System a plus.
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and prioritize competing demands.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong, self-starting work ethic and ability to perform under high pressure and severe time constraints.
