Overview: 

The Program Assistant will work with the Lecture Program Officer on managing logistical, administrative, and promotional aspects of approximately twenty programs per year, including cultural lectures, tasting events, and meet the author talks. This is a part-time position with a regular weekday schedule of approximately 20 hours per week. On occasion, the Program Assistant will be expected to adjust scheduled hours to work in the evenings or weekends for events.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Program Officer to facilitate travel and logistics for event speakers and participants
  • Organize and create program materials, including promotional materials and event handouts
  • Assist financial management
  • Create date and statistical reports
  • Train and coordinate non-staff volunteers and interns
  • Conduct research on potential speakers, sponsors, and outreach partners
  • Translate Japanese documents into English
  • Any other administrative duties within the department

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year related experience
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
  • Familiarity with Japanese language
  • Interest in and knowledge of Japanese culture and current social trends
  • Proficiency in Window’s office suite and online research
  • Superior organizational skills with ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in a team
  • Availability to work in the evenings and on weekends for events
  • Familiarity with New York Metropolitan area cultural organizations and other non-profit institutions
