Overview:

Kalamazoo College seeks an Assistant Director of the Center for International Programs (Latin America)/International Students and Scholars Adviser.  The Assistant Director of the Center International Programs (CIP) of Kalamazoo College provides administrative support for the policies and priorities established by the Director of the CIP. This Assistant Director position has the primary responsibility for managing the study abroad programs available to Kalamazoo College students in Central and South America, as well as serving as the College’s primary International Student and Scholar Adviser for F-1 and J-1 (DSO/ARO), overseeing the College’s University Partner Exchange Programs (UPEP). S/He also provides organizational leadership for the internal marketing of all Education Abroad and Study Away Programs available to Kalamazoo College students.
NOTE: Kalamazoo College is considering several different models for the delivery of international student and scholar services. This may result in a shift in these particular responsibilities in the position. The successful candidate will be expected to join in this conversation and/or work to implement the new plan.
Job Duties:
1. Manage the study abroad programs in México, Central America, the Caribbean and South America available to Kalamazoo College students, including developing new and evaluating current programs, advising and selecting students, briefing stakeholders, implementing program changes, monitoring local conditions, developing contingency plans and communicating regularly with the resident directors from this region.
2. Serve as the College’s lead International Student and Scholar Adviser (ISSA). Perform the full range of duties in the roles of Designated School Official (DSO) for the Nonimmigrant Student Status (F) Program and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the Exchange Visitor Status (J) Program including SEVIS administration (requires US citizenship or permanent residency). Administer the College’s University Partner Exchange Program (UPEP) for one-year visiting international exchange students.
Qualifications:
1. B.A. or M.A., with M.A. preferred.
2. Minimum of two years’ experience in international education administration (at least half-time).
3. Experience with both study abroad and international student/scholar advising.
4. Minimum one year experience and training advising for F and J programs and working with SEVIS (requires US citizenship or US permanent residency).
5. Extended study and/or work experience abroad.
