Messiah College, a Christian college of the liberal and applied arts and sciences located outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, has recently begun offering a graduate assistantship for students enrolled in our MA in Higher Education program who are interested in working with off-campus programs and our new experiential learning requirement. MA in Higher Education: Graduate Assistantships

The Master of Arts in Higher Education program at Messiah College offers a select number of Graduate Assistantships for full-time degree seeking students in the Master of Arts in Higher Education. Graduate assistantships offer students the opportunity to put the theories, gained through classroom instruction, into practice through supervised, real-world experience. Assistantships are designed to provide a meaningful educational and professional experience that will provide graduates with the skills and knowledge they need for successful professional employment. Graduate Assistantships are generally two-year appointments.

Experiential Learning & Off-Campus Study Graduate Assistant
($10,000.00 Annual Stipend, from Aug 4, 2014 – May 31, 2015; 20 hours a week not to exceed 800 hours/year)

The graduate assistant will perform duties related to the College’s new Experiential Learning Requirement (ELR), specifically as it relates to off-campus study. Primary Duties will be to establish a working knowledge of and commitment to departmental mission, objectives, and programs related to off-campus study; participate in training which includes understanding of context for ELR within the College’s strategic plan as well as ePortfolio development; advise students who are considering off-campus study as their ELR; provide data summaries and/or individual student information; and other duties listed here<https://www.messiah.edu/documents/graduate_studies/HigherEd/GraduateAssistant.ExperientalLearnOffCampus.pdf>. Experience and Skills needed: appreciation for the integration of experiential learning within higher education – how it impacts students’ learning and prepares them for post-graduate transition; excellent interpersonal skills; advanced written and verbal communication skills; ability to work effectively with a diverse constituency; eagerness to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team; strong organizational and planning skills that reflect timeliness, the ability to prioritize projects and intentional follow up; proficiency with technology (experience with ePortfolios preferred). Occasional weekend and evening work as priorities demand. Christian faith commitment and current enrollment in Master of Arts in Higher Education.
