Hiring Rate/Range: $2,827-$3,714/month

Overview:

The Study Abroad Advisor’s role is to advise students, parents, faculty and staff of the various opportunities in studying abroad. S/he is responsible for recruitment of students; promotion of programs; management of program sites; preparing students for an experience abroad, transferring course credit; dealing with student issues; and responding to the needs of students, parents, staff and faculty. S/he is a team player with excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and a willingness to be flexible as the programs develop. Must be able to multi-task working on several projects at a time.

Specific Responsibilities: 65%

  • Serve as Study Abroad Advisor
  • Advise students pursuing a study abroad program
  • Liaise with students, parents, partner institutions, and ISU departments
  • Aid students in receiving academic credit for their study abroad program
  • Develop portions of Study Abroad Orientation
  • Review study abroad applications
  • Process and maintain study abroad application materials
  • Liaise with Registrar’s Office to obtain study abroad course articulations

  • Assist in the development of recruitment strategies for the Study Abroad Unit
  • Develop recruitment materials, both paper and digital
  • Develop informational presentations in conjunction with the Coordinator
  • Maintain constant campus presence for the Study Abroad Unit
  • Assist with coordination of Study Abroad Fairs on campus
  • Deliver Study Abroad Orientation
  • Participate in study abroad outreach events

  • Oversee receipt of study abroad transcripts
  • Maintain study abroad program brochure webpages
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities, as well as international travel, are part of the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated professional work experience in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated superior oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong administrative competency and organization ability
  • Demonstrated participation in a semester-length or longer study abroad program
  • If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
