Position: International Programs Activities & Events Coordinator (Part-Time Position)

Type: 1 position at 17 hrs/wk each

Job Goal:

To enhance international students’ awareness and involvement in Seattle life and activities, as well as provide support and assistance in finding housing for students. Supports programming for IEP (Intensive English Program), academic and technical program students as well as short term and contract groups.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Logistical planning and implementation of New International Student

Orientation and Welcome Week every quarter (including Summer quarter): 

  • Including logistical coordination, communication, and presenting on various topics
  • Create pre-arrival information and materials for incoming students
  • Maintain an active calendar of events by preparing and hosting activities (including but not limited to: co-curricular, cultural, social, volunteer opportunities, campus visits) multiple times per month
  • Implement, direct, and supervise Student Ambassador program
  • Coordinate with student-led clubs and other campus departments to deliver co-sponsored activities
  • Arrange for new students to be picked up at the airport when they arrive
  • Act as housing liaison to homestay agencies, updating and searching for alternative housing and relating the information to the students when needed
  • Maintain activities budget, including handling receipts, credit card check-out, and handling all paperwork assigned with making purchases, reserving rooms for activities at the school, or renting the school vehicles
  • Coordinate and Implement the Conversation Partner Program
  • Create and Implement campus-wide programming in celebration of International Education Week (once per year)
  • Provide event-related, coordination, and logistical support for contract short term groups
  • Coordinate and Implement IEP graduation each quarter
  • Plan graduation reception for graduating International students each spring
  • Continuously maintain and update social media site: facebook, blog, etc
  • Provide backup coverage for front desk and contribute to a positive and welcoming environment for students
  • Other duties as assigned

Beneficial Abilities/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Knowledge of a second language (besides English) can help, but is not required (Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, French)
  • A Washington State Driver’s License and willingness to drive for events is required
  • Friendly, Creative, and Confident when dealing with groups of people is a plus
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working as part of a team
  • Available for occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to problem solve and think quickly on your feet
  • Experience with campus programming and event planning
