Job Duties:
- Manage and coordinate services to support the success of international students.
- Creates goals and objectives that reflect Campus objectives, and evaluates performance and success
- Supervises staff and develops office policy to ensure efficient service delivery
- Drafts, recommends and implements policies and procedures on a variety of international student issues, such as admissions, health insurance, resident tuition, and English proficiency for international students
- Collaborating with student affairs colleagues, provides leadership in the development of international and diversity student activities and programs; serves as an advisor/mentor to international student organizations.
- Produces and presents relevant communications to international students, such as a handbook and orientation programs
- Oversees required activities in matters pertaining to government agencies and compliance, such as the US Department of Justice, the US Department of State, and the Internal Revenue Service
- Maintains relationships with College community, faculty and staff to provide additional support and to inform students of resources available to them.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Major responsibilities include:
– Manage existing international cohort programs, student exchanges, and other international activities. Coordinate and successfully manage all existing degree and non-degree international programs. Work closely with faculty and various academic and administrative offices to ensure successful functioning of all aspects of the programs.
– Implement, refine, and monitor practices and procedures for international agreements and affiliations.
– Provide support to the Dean in establishing and maintaining collaborations with foreign institutions. Coordinate and facilitate international agreements following CUNY policies. Maintain relationships with international partner organizations.
– Collect and analyze data to ensure program sustainability and new directions of development. Create and refine reports on all international initiatives.
– Perform case management. Review, process, and prepare application documents. Perform course registration and billing. Conduct monitoring, advising, and troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
– Master’s degree in TESOL or related field required
– A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in higher education
– Ph.D. degree
– Working with international students in institutions of higher education in the US; experience living, studying, and/or working abroad
– A minimum of 3 years of management experience of ESL or international programs at a college level
– A track record of participation in professional organizations
– Excellent communication, interpersonal, cross-cultural, and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing
– Attention to detail and well-developed organizational, time-management, and administrative skills including budgeting, planning, and scheduling
– Proficiency in relevant software such as Excel, and ability to balance multiple priorities
– Knowledge of best practices in international education and successful record in program creation, development, and implementation
– Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with all levels of staff, faculty, students, and overseas partners to achieve institutional goals
– Willingness and ability to take initiative, meet tight deadlines, and work with or without supervision
– Sensitivity and flexibility when working with people from different cultures; discretion in confidential matters
– Knowledge of the US higher education system, student visas, and admission requirements
– Knowledge of TESOL methodology, principles of second language acquisition, curriculum design, and the use of instructional technology
– Fluency in a language other than English
