Position: Lead Manager of the American Semester Program

Overview:

Provides leadership and development of the American Semester Program (www.americansemester.msu.edu); works with the executive director and the American Semester Program coordinator to manage all aspects of the inbound study abroad program, including management, budgeting and administration, promotions and recruitment, and student advising and support; leads communication and capacity management with all exchange partners.

Job Duties:

Program Development: working with strategic partners and scholarship agencies, scanning the external environment for market opportunities, and working with MSU departments to design niche programs, including intensive summer short-term study programs.

Management and Administration: develops and manages the program budget in conjunction with the executive director and the business manager; coordinators the administration of financial disbursements to MSU Colleges in conjunction with the business manager; responds to requests for program updates and reports from the executive director and the dean’s office; works with MSU faculty and partner universities to facilitate the administration of partnership agreements, including training new partners on admissions policy and procedures, and maintenance of data on exchange and other partner agreements; serves as primary point of contact for communication with exchange partners; assists departments in developing exchange agreements and programs as requested; leads design and planning of intake and integration programming for inbound non-degree international students; coordinates partner visits in conjunction with other OSA and ISP staff.

Program Development: works with strategic partners and scholarship programs to develop opportunities for cohort programs; monitors external opportunities for program development; liaise with faculty and College administrators on targeted opportunities for program development.

Promotion and Recruitment: oversees ongoing development of the American Semester Program brand, including all communications material, brochures, Web sites and partner communication; coordinate promotional activities for the American Semester Program including conference exhibitions, study abroad fairs, and campus visits; represent the American Semester Program at overseas education promotional events including study abroad fairs, partner visits, and campus presentations; develop and maintain an American Semester Program alumni group.

Student Advising and Support: responds to prospective student inquiries and provides application support; assists students with arrival, orientation, and ongoing support needs; works with the internship provider and academic colleges to support the internship application and management process; oversees the design and delivery of social and cultural activities for participants in the American Semester Program and exchange program; works with residence life on housing assignments and the integration of students into the residence halls; liaise with the Office of International Student & Scholars and other University offices as needed; liaise with faculty on academic matters including student advising.

Required qualifications:

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing master’s degree in marketing, international relations, foreign language, area studies, communications, or a related field; three to five years to related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired qualifications:

Working proficiency in a European language; prior experience in Europe and/or Latin America; experience working in a study abroad office or other student service-oriented university office; marketing/sales experience; on-line marketing experience; experience living, studying or working abroad; experience in oral presentation to a variety of audiences.
