Position: Assistant/Associate Director of Graduate and International

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:00pm, with some Wednesdays 9:30am-6:00pm.

Overview:

The Assistant/Associate Director of Graduate and International Programs, School of Law is responsible for the following: coordinate recruitment and marketing efforts for the Graduate and International Programs Office; manage new student enrollment and scholarships; serve as the Law School’s Designated School Official (DSO); oversee the development and regular update of LL.M., M.S. in Legal Studies, Study Abroad and other international initiative websites and marketing materials; and develop retention strategies to promote and assure a positive student experience. The Assistant/Associate Director reports to the Director and works in a collaborative relationship with the other Assistant/Associate Director, other student services offices, and the faculty. Position requires a valid CA driver’s license and US passport; some overnight and international travel is required. This position works under the general supervision of the Director of Graduate and International Programs, and assists in the general supervision of the Executive Assistant and work-study students.


Job Duties:

  • Coordinate recruitment and marketing efforts for the Graduate and International Programs Office
  • Oversee all office contacts with more than 1,000 prospective students and visitors to the five graduate (LL.M.) programs, the M.S. in Legal Studies, summer and semester study abroad programs, and the International Scholars Seminar or similar programming.
  • Serve as the Law School’s Designated School Official for international students, professors and scholars
  • Responsible for F-1 immigration activities and J-1 visa program for all international students, professors, and visiting scholars at the School of Law. Be specifically trained and responsible for submission of data regarding individuals’ visa eligibility via the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to Homeland Security and the Department of State.
  • Update the Graduate and International Programs website and publications
  • Oversee the development of an expanded and comprehensive website to serve prospective and enrolled students.
  • Manage new student enrollment
  • Provide regular reports to the Director regarding projected enrollments and scholarship awards. Manage the administration of the Graduate Programs merit scholarship budget.

Qualifications:

Assistant Director
• Bachelor’s degree required;
• JD or other graduate level degree preferred
• Minimum of one to two years professional experience in higher education or student services at the graduate level;

Associate Director
• Bachelor’s degree required;
• JD or other graduate level degree preferred
• Minimum of three years professional experience in higher education or student services at the graduate level;
• At least one year in legal education;

General:
• Proven skills in written and oral communication (including writing samples); experience in marketing strongly preferred;
• Ability to prioritize workload effectively and meet deadlines with minimal supervision;
• Ability to take initiative in managing projects and ability to develop and keep to time lines;
• Ability to represent the department and School of Law with sound judgment and a professional manner;
• CA driver’s license and current passport required for travel (some trips may be extended);
• Ability to work evenings and weekends will be occasionally required;
• Ability to be proactive with respect to suggestions for improving all aspects of the programs;
• Highly organized team player management, and organization;
• Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in Word and Excel;
• Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in database management, including basic-intermediate report writing skills; and ability to work in a busy, customer service oriented office and handle chaotic and calm periods
