Oberlin Shansi invites applications for the position of Campus and Outreach Coordinator. Oberlin Shansi is a non-profit organization that supports international educational and cultural exchange between Asia and Oberlin College, focusing on China, India, Indonesia, and Japan. This is a full-time 12-month Administrative and Professional Staff entry-level position reporting to the Assistant Director of Oberlin Shansi.  The initial appointment is for two years, beginning on September 1, 2013.

The Campus and Outreach Coordinator will play a key role in expanding Shansi relationships and outreach with local, national, and international partners. This will include developing, maintaining, and expanding Shansi’s tools for managing key relationships with former Fellows, Oberlin College, Shansi Friends, international partner institutions, Northern Ohio partners, and others. The Campus and Outreach Coordinator will have primary responsibility for managing the Shansi website and social media presence on sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn; will support various reports and publications through writing and editing; and will provide staffing support for Shansi fundraising and outreach efforts.  The Campus and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for promoting Oberlin Shansi programs on the Oberlin College campus; managing logistics for Shansi campus and local events such as symposia, guest lectures, and performances; and staffing the Shansi Board of Trustees’ Oberlin Committee.  The Campus and Outreach Coordinator will work closely with the Shansi Returned Fellow to coordinate Oberlin campus programs and events, and with the Shansi Executive Director and Assistant Director on public outreach and fundraising.

Requirements and Desired Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • The applicant must possess a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in international communications/relations, cross-cultural communications, education, or Asian studies.
  • A successful applicant should be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively with undergraduate students, foreign nationals, college faculty and staff, and volunteers.
Skills and Requirements:
  • Flexibility, creativity, and a passion for international exchange and development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in website content management and Microsoft Office programs, and strong general computer skills.
  • Familiarity with Asian cultures as well as cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Team-oriented, creative, and strongly motivated.
  • Because a component of the position requires managing events/ programs, weekend and evening hours will be expected.
