NorthWest Student Exchange is looking for a capable and dedicated person to work in NWSE’s headquarters in the University District of Seattle as part of a team supporting international high school student exchange.

NWSE is a non-profit organization that sponsors high school exchange students from all over the world to study in America, primarily on J-1 visas. NWSE also supports American students studying abroad.

Responsibilities:

Coordinate international high school exchange programs with particular emphasis on Japan and East Asia. The Program Coordinator generally will:

•Work with international partners, U.S. local coordinators, host families, and students to coordinate program components.
•Ensure client welfare through problem-solving with exchange students, host families, and local coordinators
•Accurately collect, track, and record required programmatic documents and reports
•Screen students and host families, review applications, conduct student interviews, and liaise with international partners and families
•Coordinate programs for both “inbound” students to the U.S. as well as “outbound” American students abroad.
•Invoice participants and assist with monitoring accounts receivable
•Prepare J-1 visa application and student health insurance documentation
•Collaborate with NWSE team members on team projects such as orientations, school presentations, cultural events, and program compliance.
•Use database and spreadsheet software to accurately maintain records so as to comply with applicable regulations

Qualifications:
• Commitment to the mission of international student exchange, student welfare, and client satisfaction.
•Strong problem solving, decision-making, prioritization, analytical, and writing abilities.
•Four-year university degree, preferably related to Japanese languages and cultures.
•Relevant experience living, studying and/or working in Japan.
•Strong Japanese language skills (equivalent to JLPT level N2 preferred).
•Excellent customer service/interpersonal communication skills.
•Ability and desire to work in a dynamic, collaborative, open-office environment.
•Strong planning and organizational skills and abilities to complete projects to deadlines.
•Self-motivated, cooperative, detail-orientated, multi-tasker and team player with initiative
•Two+ years in an administrative function with experience in customer service, MS office applications and databases, OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Experience working with diverse groups of people.

Desired (but not required)
•Experience in project management, I.T. (web) or program design, and/or exchange program coordinating
•Other languages (besides English and Japanese)
