Duties & Responsibilities  The purpose of the British Embassy (BE) in Tokyo is to promote the British Government’s prosperity, security and consular interests in Japan. The successful applicant will join the 50-strong UK Trade and Investment Team, which aims to promote economic growth and prosperity by helping British companies to access the Japanese market and encouraging Japanese companies to invest in the UK. This is a high priority for the British government.

The Marketing team at UKTI Japan has a clear mandate to increase the number of UK companies we help. We plan to do much of this digitally. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a capable digital professional to work within the British Embassy to develop the professionalism and reach of our digital services to UK companies coming to Japan. The position offers a highly-rewarding opportunity to make a personal contribution to improving business links between the UK and Japan.

This successful candidate will manage our suite of digital platforms on a daily basis, uploading, styling and cross linking content for an audience of mainly UK companies looking to export to Japan. The aim is to develop our online platforms with fresh content, improved services and better functionality to help UK companies make better and quicker decisions about their next steps in the market. The role will extend the reach of our digital partnerships, working with strategic partners to provide information and services like webinars, event booking tools, and access to downloadable offers via a new Export to Japan member’s scheme.

Main Duties · Digital Platform Manager · Manage all UKTI Japan digital platforms · Update/upload all English & Japanese-language content on the following platforms: gov.uk, Open to Export, Export to Japan, Business Opportunities, Connect, Emarsys (e-newsletter system) · New Digital Delivery Tools · Set up and run an online events listings & booking tool · Manage membership of the site · Develop and manage content on social media sites · Analyse data derived from digital activity to identify leads and inform strategy development · Develop the reach and impact of our digital platforms · Webinar & recorded AV content production · Coordinate technical AV production · Produce each webinar/live AV event along with teams · Film events & interviews · Record podcasts · Manage webinar studio & equipment · Support · Coordinating with digital teams in wider Embassy and in strategic partners · Logistical support to support the Marketing Team as required

Requirements The successful candidate will be proficient in English, with Japanese-language ability useful but not essential. They will have prior experience of digital work, preferably of managing websites delivering information and services to English-speaking users. Experience administrating membership schemes, filming and recording live AV and creating content would also be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have good appreciation of the needs of UK business users, an ability to work with lots of different teams in a UK and Japanese environment, a proven ability to deliver results on time and to agreed standards, as well as an innovative approach and a creative eye for making video and audio come to life.   This is a unique position within the Embassy, offering considerable scope to take ownership of an innovative project making a real difference to the way UK Trade & Investment communicates with its clients.

We are looking for someone who is prepared to make a one-year commitment to the project and see it to a successful conclusion, and would be looking to the use the opportunity as their next stepping stone to a career in digital media work.

Benefit package includes:

1. The job is being offered on a one-year contract, renewable annually, up to a maximum of three years.

2. Working hours: Monday to Friday, generally 0900-1730, with flexible working opportunities and occasional out of hours working required for filming events in the evenings

3. Salary: From JPY 300,000 per month, with 1 month bonuses payable in June and December (Note: Subject to tax status, this amount may be reduced.)

4. Commuting allowance of up to JPY35,000 per month (paid on an actual cost basis)

5. 20 days paid annual leave
