Position: Assistant Researcher

Research

    • Assisting Japanese staff research projects and also assistance in drafting responses to research topics from Japan regarding local administration in the UK and Northern European Countries
    • Assisting research commissioned from Japan, collecting and providing information
    • Assisting researching and drafting of reports
    • Visit support for delegations from Japan
    • Visit support for delegations from Japan visiting local authorities and other organizations
    • Preparation of materials for the purpose of the delegations
    • Assistance for Programmes
    • Assisting the co-ordination with local authorities and with holding events hosted by Japan Local Government Centre
    • Assisting co-ordination with local authorities for international exchange programmes
    • Assistance with General affairs
    • Assistance with publicity
    • Assistance with the training of Japanese staff
    • Other duties as may be required

Skills:

    • Degree-educated
    • Excellent English language ability (for letter writing, report writing etc.)
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills, as well as reliability and punctuality
    • Easy-going nature and ability to work in an inter-cultural environment
    • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.)
    • Desirable: working knowledge of local public administration
    • Desirable: experience of living in Japan and strong Japanese language proficiency
    • Desirable: ability in another Northern European language (German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, or Norwegian)
    • Desirable: knowledge of basic website management software

Work Hours And Annual Leave:

    • Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
    • 20 days annual leave plus bank holidays per year
    • During the probationary period (3 months), holiday entitlement accrues but you may not take paid holidays.
    • 3 extra paid holidays during summer
    • 29th December to 3rd January extra paid holidays
    • Duration:    One year contract from 1st of April 2013 (up to 2 years)

Interview:

    •  Interviews will be held on the 7th or 8th of March 2013 at our London office, successful applicants only will be notified of their interview time by the 27th of February 2013.
    • Will be conducted mostly in English with some Japanese (if the applicant is capable of speaking Japanese)
