Charles Wright Academy is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts.  Founded in 1957, the school enrolls 680 students in grades preschool through twelve. We are located in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Tacoma, approximately 1 mile from Puget Sound and within the shadow of Mt. Rainier.

This position is a full-time faculty appointment for the 2013-14 academic year.  This position will teach Middle School and advanced Japanese.

Responsibilities:
• Teaches three sections of Middle School Japanese, grades 6-8.
• Teaches one section of advanced Japanese at our Upper School.
• Acts as an advisor to a group of Middle School students.
• Involvement in extracurricular activities and/or coaching.
• Chaperones one overnight class trip.
• Plans for the diversity of abilities and learning styles within the classroom, providing a variety of learning opportunities, methods, and materials.

• Imparts enthusiasm for learning to students and encourages the growth of moral character.
• Practices appropriate and effective classroom management techniques.
• Conducts ongoing assessments of students’ development and growth and maintain record of such.
• Maintains communication with parents to keep them abreast of students’ performance.
• Communicates in a professional and timely manner with parents, colleagues, and administration.
• Supervises students in all areas of the building.
• Develops a team approach for research and research-driven instruction.
• Attends all scheduled faculty and community meetings.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be fluent in Japanese and have earned a bachelor’s degree; a master’s degree is preferred.  Demonstrated effective teaching experience in middle school is preferred, in either a public or independent school setting.  The candidate must have experience in dynamic, flexible pedagogical techniques appropriate to a variety of learning styles.  A sense of humor, ability to work cooperatively with peers, and a passion for working with emerging adolescents is essential.
