Job Position: English Teacher, Hokkaido

Job Description:

The YWCA in Hakodate is looking to fill an English teaching position by the end of the month.

  • Working time: Tuesday to Friday, 4 days a week, 10am start, 21 lessons a week (about 21 hours), about 70 students. All levels and ages.
  • Salary: 200,000 yen a month after income tax deductions.
  • Housing: The YWCA will help you get an apartment within walking distance of the working place in Central Hakodate near Goryokaku.
  • As the new teacher you will be entirely in charge of teaching and designing the lessons. You will teach in your own classroom (that has some books and materials provided) and you will have the freedom to implement your own ideas. Of the 21 lessons, 3 are elementary, one junior high and one high school. Also, you will attend a kindergarten most Fridays for two 40 minute lessons on top of the regular schedule. The applicant must be enthusiastic, like children and be prepared to work hard at producing interesting activities/classes.

As the only English teacher in a charitable organization such as the YWCA, the applicant should be aware that their job is one of the main streams of income for the association. Therefore, someone who can commit to at least a year contract is essential.
