REQUIREMENTS:

* Undergrad degree from an accredited college, university, schl of translation or commensurate experience.

* Distinct writing and oral ability in own language and English for quality and integrity of source texts.

* Strong analytical and research skills.

* Localization issues and cross-cultural awareness.

* Ability to use tools and reference sources efficiently and profitably, including on-line resources.

* Time management skills and ability to organize work effectively.

* Ability to work independently and demonstrate capacity to work as part of a professional team.

* Ability to handle a variety of assignments, balance priorities, and meet deadlines essential.

* Intellectual curiosity to keep abreast, through reading and other means, with new developments,

shifts in emphasis, newly acquired connotations, and use of native language.

* Good interpersonal skills for contact with originators, RI membership, and leadership.

* Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

* Some supervisory experience a plus.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Translators communicate information and ideas through the written word and prepare texts for

publication and dissemination from their native/active language into another.

Translators need a solid grasp of the languages to be translated, a thorough understanding of cultural

references and localization issues as well as a high degree of knowledge about the intended target audience.

SPECIFIC DUTIES :

* Successfully translates texts w/precise congruity judgments & flawless expression within time constraints.

* Reviews and edits translations of other translators for accuracy, quality and fidelity per supervisor.

* Proofreads RI publications by checking for typographical errors, omissions, and miscellaneous errors;

by using appropriate printer’s marks.

* Assists Broadcast Media Department staff with voice over projects and approves videos for cultural

effectiveness on language, accents, talent, etc.

* Communicates within Division & across sections any relevant information & resources useful to other staff.

* Alerts Publications, Magazine and Audiovisual departments to Rotary projects for potential story use in RI

publications, THE ROTARIAN magazine, and regional magazines.

* Participates in translation and localization of Web pages as well as support for CAS/DAS software.

* May serve as simultaneous and/or consecutive interpreter as required at RI board, trustees, and

committee meetings, as well as at the International Assembly and International Convention, if qualified.

* Keeps abreast of Rotary programs & changes in statutory documents by studying appropriate sources.

Three to five years translation experience helpful. SupervisoryResponsibilities, delegated by supervisor.
