The Program Coordinator will facilitate the enrollment of undergraduate study abroad students from Japan, Korea, Mainland China and Taiwan at SAF affiliated/host universities and colleges in the US and Canada, UK and Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Responsibilities include processing applications, liaising with SAF overseas offices and affiliated host universities, creating relevant program materials, responding to student questions, and the provision of personal, cultural, academic, and emergency advice and assistance for the duration of participants study abroad experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities to Include:
• Work closely with the SAF offices overseas (Beijing, Seoul, Shanghai, Taichung, Tokyo) sharing information and promptly responding to inquiries regarding student placement, acceptance criteria, application deadlines, etc.
• Screen, review and submit applications to SAF host universities
• Follow-up with host universities to facilitate quick turn-around on student acceptances
• Ensure timely and organized delivery of information and materials to SAF offices overseas, and SAF host universities
• Secure participant housing, orientation participation, class registration, and arrival coordination
• Create, and revise pre-departure orientation materials and on-site communication sequence
• Provide prompt on-site student support services via phone and email as well as after-hours student support services
• Coordinate and participate in SAF orientation and host university orientation programs
• Travel to SAF host universities to meet with participants and host university officials
• Coordinate and participate in SAF professional development programs for SAF member universities in Asia
• Accurately input applicant data into the SAF student database and create, organize and ensure integrity of applicant’s paper files
Qualifications:
• BA/BS required, masters degree preferred with 1 to 3 years of professional experience, preferably in study abroad, international student advising, exchange student coordination, international admission, or English language program administration.
• Adept at prioritizing and multi-tasking; able to arrange and follow-through on own travel plans (flights, hotel arrangements, local transportation, student programming, etc.)
• Study abroad participation or experience living or working overseas
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and exercise good judgment in addressing questions and problems. Possess strong teamwork skills and an interest in working in and supporting a rapidly changing work environment
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
• Energetic, creative with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, fluency in an Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) preferred
Work Environment:
• Small collaborative work environment; lots of opportunity to focus on areas of personal interest in international education
• Willing to travel in the US and abroad as required; approximately 4 trips per semester (one outside the US) should be expected
• Resolving emergency situations may require additional work hours
• Willing to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned
