A recent question from a fellow JET alum:

“Does anyone know a truly informative, enjoyable way to get a TESL/TEFL/ or CELTA certification?  Does anyone have any personal experience they can share.”

If you can help, please post your response in the comment section below, or e-mail jetwit [at] jetwit [dot] com.

As a former JET, I would say either go big and get your CELTA, or just get the cheapest TEFL off the net.

A lot of it depends on what you want to teach and where to teach it. I’m applying to teach English in China and a lot of the jobs I’ve been offered don’t even require a TEFL (they said they did, but then were like ‘whatever’ when I mentioned I wouldn’t get my CELTA cert. until next month).

The CELTA is ridiculously brutal, and I would never describe it as enjoyable. It has it’s pluses and minuses, but I will say that you learn a ton and it’s so “prestigious” that you could actually get fancy state-side jobs afterwards with it. Shoot me an email if you want to know more…. (balticprincess@gmail.com)
