Coordinate and provide administrative support for faculty-led and exchange study abroad programs, including marketing and promotions of in-house programs.Background
This is a new position within the Lindner College of Business (LCB) collaborating with the study abroad side of International Programs. International Programs is a unit within the Lindner College of Business. LCB sends over 400 students abroad on up to 16 faculty-led short term programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. LCB International Programs collaborates with UC International Programs and follows their lead in study abroad management and protocol.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Process study abroad applications and maintain student information in database
• Assist with logistic planning for faculty-led study abroad, including reservations for flights, hotels, and sightseeing.
• Develop and implement study abroad marketing and promotion, to recruit program participants
• Promote study abroad on-campus with various presentations to classes and student organizations
• Collaborate with assoc. director in preparing budgets, itineraries, and in minimizing health and safety risks to program participants
• Communicate to faculty program policies, procedures, deadlines, etc.
• Direct walk-in student traffic to the associate director of study abroad or international exchange
• Assist with cultural programming for international exchange students
• Administer and analyze evaluation questionnaires. Compile statistics and prepare reports.
• Assist with Accounts Payable processes
• Interact with staff, faculty, and university departments regarding international programs.
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with one year experience
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
• Experience living, studying or working abroad
• Knowledge of best practices in international higher education and/or study abroad
• Ability to interact with faculty, students, administrators, and others in a highly professional manner
• Strong organizational skills
• Experience with TerraDotta software

Duties:
• Interview prospective participants for the IIB study and internship program that takes place both on campus and in New York City. This interview helps us select and place interns and is a requirement of the J1 intern category.
• Assist International programs staff with timely and accurate orientation to program specific, as well as general campus and local community resources for incoming international students
• Advise and assist current student interns regarding American business practices; sourcing potential internship placements; assisting them with interview skills and American resume writing. Successful candidate will typically work with between 6-12 students per semester to find full time internships for second half of each spring & fall semester in NYC.
• Liaising with internship sponsors regarding the placement of IIB participants, setting up interviews, helping match students to internship opportunities
• Facilitate a weekly internship practicum class with IIB students to further help prepare them for the internships in NYC, as well as cover American (business) culture topics
• Assist with training plan preparations, as well as updating of databases and other record keeping requirements for the J1 Intern program
• Conduct internship site visits in New York City and perform evaluation of internship placement sites and internship duties. This is also a J1 Visa category requirement and also allows us to assure that the placements we facilitate are good learning opportunities for our IIB student interns.
• Research and visit NYC student living accommodations as needed by program to ensure of quality and safety for program participants
• Assist the Global Engagement Program (GEP) with application reviews, and orientation, resume / cover letter workshops for those accepted into program
• Collaborate with office exchange advisors to support OPT/ CPT / BSMP internship applicants with resume & interview workshops
• Position hours require a set week day schedule during core University hours
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred
• Demonstrated experience in career development, placement and/or career activities in higher education including knowledge of career counseling / student development
• Experience conducting workshops / presentations in a classroom setting
• Ability to work one-on-one with visiting university students seeking full time internships in NYC
• Knowledge of accounting, finance, communications, event planning, general business, international business, marketing, media, production, public relations, and management careers very helpful
• Knowledge of social media and its use as a job search strategy
• Upbeat, high energy team player with commitment to working with a diverse international student population

The University of Connecticut seeks a dynamic, visionary leader to serve as Director of Education Abroad. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Affairs, the Director of Education Abroad plans, organizes, and administers an array of student exchange and study/internship/service learning programs abroad that enhance the education of UConn students and contribute to the University’s goal of promoting responsible global citizenship.

1. Manage, coordinate and oversee all aspects of Education Abroad programs;

5. Excellent organizational ability and communication skills;
6. Experience developing, managing and evaluating complex budgets;
7. In-depth knowledge of issues related student advising;
8. Experience developing, promoting and evaluating programs; and
9. Knowledge of effective fund-raising strategies.
