Job Description: As a member of a three person Institutional Relations
team, the Institutional Relations Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and building relationships with academic contacts at colleges and universities, recruiting students to study on Spanish Studies Abroad programs abroad, and working to develop new strategies for marketing and recruitment. This full-time position includes extensive travel within the western regions of the U.S. (approx. 8-10 weeks each semester). This regionally, home-based position offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Primary Responsibilities:
. Maintain and strengthen ongoing relationships with administrators, faculty and advisors at affiliated institutions throughout a designated region
. Establish and develop relationships with administrators, faculty and advisors at potential partner institutions
. Schedule and coordinate personal recruiting travel
. Actively recruit students on their home campuses through informational sessions, academic meetings, study abroad fairs, and classroom visits in English and/or Spanish
. Participate in organized follow-up with student inquiries and applicants
. Strategize to develop new marketing/recruiting techniques and materials

(8) Director of English Language and Global Bridge Programs

Carthage College is currently seeking highly qualified applicants for the position of Director of English Language and Global Bridge Programs. This position is a full-time, 12-month staff appointment within the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies, with the potential for an additional faculty departmental appointment, if qualified.

The Director oversees and leads the development of special academic programs for international students. The Director coordinates the Global Bridge Program, a high-profile partnership between Carthage College and Tsinghua University High School. The Director teaches English language and cultural acquisition classes, develops and oversees curriculum, assists with international student recruitment and advising, and identifies new opportunities that increase international student enrollment, enhance the College’s reputation abroad, and provide global education opportunities for Carthage students and faculty.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to:

1.      Oversee and direct the Carthage-Tsinghua Global Bridge Program (GBP), a 10-month rigorous and immersive program for international high school graduates who seek to study at U.S. universities. This position will:
•       Assist with recruiting and oversee the admissions, registration, and visa processes;
•       Coordinate the summer transition and orientation programs in Beijing and at Carthage College;
•       Teach the course American Cultural Literacy during the fall and spring semesters;
•       Develop a January term experience at Carthage’s facilities in downtown Chicago;
•       Oversee advising of GBP students; work with assistant director and campus resources to ensure a comprehensive advising experience;
•       Supervise assistant director(s) and graduate assistant(s) to plan student transportation, social and cultural events, immersion activities, community service projects, leadership training, and co-curricular activities; and
•       Work with office of student life to ensure successful residential experience for GBP students.

2.      Develop curricula that support the academic needs of international student populations; teach English language and American culture acquisition classes for international students; identify, hire, and supervise additional part-time faculty to teach as needed; oversee partnerships with local English as a Second Language programs.

3.      Assist with international student recruitment; travel abroad as needed to identify qualified candidates for Carthage undergraduate, graduate, and summer programs.

4.      Oversee international student advising; work directly with international students to help them achieve personal and academic goals; collaborate with College staff and faculty to further support international students.

5.      Work with the Associate Vice President to identify opportunities that increase international student enrollment, enhance the College’s reputation, and provide global education opportunities for Carthage students and faculty.

SUPERVISION
The Director reports to the Associate Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies.  The Director will supervise a team of part-time faculty, assistant director(s), graduate assistant(s), and undergraduate student workers.

QUALIFICATIONS
•       Master’s degree required; doctorate preferred.
•       Knowledge of language teaching methods and techniques, educational and pedagogical principles, sociological and psycholinguistic contexts of language learning, second language curriculum, assessment, acquisition theory and research, English language acquisition, teaching materials, educational technology, and English language program accreditation.
•       At least five years teaching experience, ideally within a higher education environment, with demonstrated teaching excellence. Some experience teaching abroad preferred.
•       Demonstrated ability to direct and coordinate programs; entrepreneurial mindset and ability to foster program growth; demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team; strong organizational skills; strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
•       Fluency in English and familiarity with/empathy for individuals from different cultural backgrounds; knowledge of at least one foreign language preferred.
•       Collegiality, collaboration, and commitment to participatory leadership required; assertiveness in enforcing program policies; ability to work under pressure and overtime when needed and adapt to changing priorities; willingness to continue learning; high level of professionalism and positive attitude required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor environment.  The incumbent will be required to operate a personal computer and associated equipment as well as other office equipment used in the day-to-day operation.  The incumbent will be required to travel to various offices on and off campus, requiring the need to walk, drive or make alternative arrangements for transportation. The incumbent may be required to travel internationally. The incumbent will be required to live within the College’s general vicinity to fully participate in evening program related activities, supervise staff, and respond to student needs.

About the Global Bridge Program
Carthage College and Tsinghua University High School have collaborated to create the Global Bridge Program (GBP), an elite and highly selective academic program for international students who are seeking to study at a U.S. university.

The GBP offers Chinese — and soon, other international — high school graduates an immersive and rigorous educational experience in a traditional U.S. collegiate setting. Students will take courses in English, American culture, foundational Western thought, math, and a variety of other topics like business, fine arts, and the sciences.

Additionally, GBP students participate in a five-week summer program in Beijing and at Carthage, as well as a January Term experience at our facilities in Chicago.
