Overview:

The Institute of International Education (IIE) works with over 35,000 participants annually on more than 250 programs around the world. IIE is developing a comprehensive, Institute-wide strategy for engaging alumni, with an emphasis on measuring the impact and results of our work.

Purpose of Position: The Manager, IIE Alumni Initiative will support IIE’s strategy for alumni engagement, research, and outreach activities. This position will contribute to developing our alumni strategy and be the focal person for executing the various components of our Institute–wide alumni initiative. Work is carried out independently under general supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Coordinate Institute-wide alumni engagement strategy, with a focus on measuring the impact and results of IIE administered programs. This includes creating, collecting, and evaluating/analyzing alumni surveys in coordination with IIE’s Research & Evaluation team; liaising with program teams to identify alumni, capturing alumni impact stories; maintaining alumni database; working with IIE systems teams to develop a self-service portal for alumni; and creating reports for senior leadership on IIE alumni program impact.
  • Create and manage opportunities for alumni engagement and communications. This includes creating and managing an alumni newsletter; managing alumni LinkedIn group, IIE alumni webpage, and other social media; solicit and write alumni impact stories; and coordinate the selection process and plan activities related to the alumni award programs.
  • Plan and organize alumni events domestically and internationally.
  • Work with program teams in IIE’s international and regional offices on alumni receptions, engagement plans, and strategies.
  • Support the implementation of systems for alumni information capture, retention, and engagement.
  • Manage interdepartmental task force on IIE’s alumni strategy.
  • Responsible for complying with applicable contract and sponsor requirements and following all IIE policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties and functions as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field such as communications or international relations plus 4 years of work experience including at least 2 years of experience in alumni relations or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with event management is required, preference for candidates with event experience in an academic, non-profit and/or development environment.
  • Communications outreach experience, including use of social media.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis preferred.
  • Previous experience planning and supporting the implementation of systems, and processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to professionally interact with all levels of alumni and staff.
  • Proven ability to work in an international setting and build relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong writing, as well as analytical and research abilities required.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international education issues, study abroad, and international exchange preferred.
  • Knowledge of web content management systems and client relationship management systems is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clear/concise writing style and ability to summarize complex informational materials.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010; internet software Adobe and database software, and social media platforms.
