Ohio University is hiring a Global Programs Coordinator within the Office of Education Abroad. We seek a candidate with a commitment to working effectively with students, faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds. The Program Coordinator serves as an integral part of efforts to increase participation in global programs, both domestically and abroad.
The Office of Education Abroad is currently undergoing an expansion that includes a broader mission of facilitating transformative learning experiences in the US. Consequently, the Program Coordinator will work with faculty directors on the preparation, management, and execution of programs both in the US and abroad. S/he will also work closely with students preparing for a global program from the beginning stages of choosing a program and pre-departure preparation, to providing on-site support and reintegration programming.
Essential Functions:
1. Manage a portfolio of global opportunities that take place both in the US and abroad. These could include domestic off-campus and on-campus experiences as well as education abroad programs. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for initiating programming that furthers the internationalization plan of the University with regard to student mobility.
2. Promotion, event planning, programming, and outreach. The Program Coordinator will promote global programs through presentations, events sponsored by other offices, and fairs. The Coordinator will plan events sponsored by the office, including but not limited to the annual study abroad fair. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring web site and publicity materials associated with their portfolio are up to date.
3. Advise students on study abroad and off-campus programs on study away global program opportunities from initiation or inquiry through program admittance and acceptance. Follow up with students interested in global programs. Works with participants on programs to troubleshoot issues that may arise. Work with office leadership to address cases of behavioral, health or other emergency situations. Collaborate with colleagues on reentry programming.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required.
-Minimum of 6 months experience abroad (studying, working, volunteering, or interning) or in an intercultural experience.
-Significant experience working with diverse populations either domestically or abroad.
-Demonstrated work experience within higher education.
Preferred Qualifications:
-Master’s degree preferred.
-Experience working in a multicultural, intercultural and/or international environment.
-Preference given to work within the field of education abroad or study away program management, ideally for at least one year.
-Intercultural competence as well as outstanding communication and public speaking skills.
-Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty and administrators.
