Overview:
Sasakawa Peace Foundation USA is a 501c3 non-profit located in Washington, DC involved in U.S.-Japan relations, providing conferences and seminars, think tank analysis, people-to-people exchanges and coordination of high-level dialogue between the two countries through our in-house and collaborative programs.
Sasakawa USA seeks an Outreach Coordinator to identify and develop relations with members and staff of the U.S. Congress and the executive branch to build greater understanding of U.S.-Japan relations. The position will also include responsibility for organizing outreach activities for Sasakawa USA’s former program participants as well as groups of Americans with significant past experience in Japan on issues of importance to U.S.-Japan relations including those who have studied or taught in Japan as well as military personnel who were based in Japan. The Outreach Coordinator is a member of the quickly growing Programs team led by the Chairman and CEO and Director for Programs.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, History, Political Science, or area studies relevant to Japan and Asia)
- Minimum 2 years of experience working on Capitol Hill or executive branch
- Strong written and oral communications skills (English language)
- Attention to detail and ability to multi-task
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Authorization to work in the US (non-US citizens must possess work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship for a visa)
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in relevant field
- Congressional staff experience in foreign affairs, armed forces, energy or finance committees.
- Prior experience working in non-profit organizations
- Knowledge of and demonstrated interest in U.S.-Japan relations
- Japanese language ability
Responsibilities:
- Develop Sasakawa USA’s overall outreach strategies and activities to improve understanding of U.S.-Japan relations among target audiences including members and staff of Congress, the Executive Branch, past program participants as well as groups of Americans with significant past experience in Japan
- Identify, establish and maintain effective relationships with target audiences particularly in the Congress and Executive branch
- Develop and organize outreach activities and events for target audiences, in close coordination with Sasakawa USA staff
- Provide information to target audiences on issues of importance to U.S.-Japan relations through e-mail/mailings, face-to-face meetings and arrangement of briefings by experts from SPFUSA.
