Position Overview:
ISEP is currently seeking a full-time Program Officer for East Asia located in our central office in Arlington, VA (10 minutes from Washington DC). Founded in 1979, ISEP is a nonprofit membership organization with over 300 partner institutions in 50 countries around the world. ISEP provides exchange and study abroad opportunities to over 3,400 students annually.
Under the general supervision of the Regional Director for Asia Pacific and the Great Lakes, the Program Officer administers student exchanges between ISEP member institutions and those in China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan; serves as principal liaison with institutions in these countries; handles all applications to and from institutions in these countries; assists the Regional Director in outreach to US members in the Great Lakes region; conducts outreach and engagement activities with students and coordinators for recruitment and retention of applicants
Responsibilities:
- Service to coordinators
- Conducts advising and outreach activities to increase application numbers
- responds to inquiries from coordinators at member institutions regarding programs and availability of space
- informs coordinators when candidates cannot be placed within the anticipated time frame, sets realistic expectations and points out other options
- participates in coordinator training and workshop
- serves as primary point of contact for coordinators from member institutions in their countries
- Service to students
- Conducts advising, outreach and engagement activities with students to increase application numbers and retain participants throughout the placement process
- reviews applications from and places students at member universities in the US and abroad; documents significant transactions in the student’s electronic record
- follows up on outstanding confirmations, makes appropriate adjustments, and provides post-placement communication
- maintains support services during and following exchange period and responds to crisis situations
3. Member Relations/Program Development
- reviews Institutional Information Sheets from designated non-US countries and follows up as needed.
- reviews student evaluations of programs and initiates/implements appropriate follow-up activity
- develops knowledge of member institutions for program advising to coordinators and students
- Assists Regional Director in development of new programs at designated member institutions
4. Outreach and Marketing
- participates in outreach and engagement to coordinators and students for marketing of designated institutions
- provides input for and reviews ISEP publications, materials and website information
- conducts site visits
- participates in professional conferences
5. Other projects related to Annual Plan as assigned
Requirements
Education: BA required; MA in relevant subject area preferred.
Experience: 2-3 years relevant work experience
Skills: Foreign language skills in Japanese preferred; study abroad or work experience in the Asia region; understanding of the cultures and educational systems of Asian countries and of U.S. higher education.
Excellent communication and organizational skills, strong customer service and student relations ability, ability to handle detail and prioritize workload; ability to work as a team member as well as independently
