Position Overview:
Portland Taiko seeks an Artist Staff member to join this nationally recognized, nonprofit taiko company. This new staff will join a dynamic, exciting performing group to assist with performances, school assembly programs, outreach projects, classes, workshops, and composition projects.
Now celebrating its 20th year, Portland Taiko (PT) is a nationally recognized leader in the emerging art form of taiko (Japanese drum). As one of a handful of professional taiko groups in the country, PT seeks a candidate with energy, motivation, and eagerness to learn about our organization. Portland Taiko is comprised of a community-based performance ensemble centered on a powerful, culturally specific art form. A dedicated group of Board, staff and volunteers works to achieve Portland Taiko’s mission: “Through innovation and excellence in taiko, Portland Taiko affirms Asian American pride, inspires audiences, builds community, and educates about our heritage and culture.”
Requirements
Applicant should have excellent taiko skills and background (3 years min. experience preferred), extensive taiko performance and teaching experience, cooperative work skills, an openness to new artistic influences and collaborations, a passion for the art form and a deep commitment to building a professional community-based taiko group.
Salary will be commensurate with experience, and benefits will include medical/dental coverage and a SEP retirement plan. Portland Taiko is an equal opportunity employer.
Responsibilities
- Provide artistic leadership and perform with PT community performing group
- Conduct educational school assembly program(s) and local bookings, including community outreach performances
- Provide instruction in adult classes, children’s classes, and workshops as assigned
- Contribute to development of artistic vision and direction of organization
