Position Overview:
The Academic Internship Council (AIC) is a global, not-for-profit internship organization. We specialize in customized, academically directed internship programs in Boston, New York City, San Francisco, Toronto, Singapore, Mumbai, and Hong Kong. In addition to internship placement and coordination, AIC provides program development and management, academic coursework, student accommodation and program safety, as well as student life and professional development activities. AIC’s dynamic team throughout the world works with more than forty university partners and places students across a broad spectrum of industries and organizational settings. All of our programs are customized, based on the needs of our university partners.
The AIC San Francisco Director is responsible for the planning, organization, and execution of all AIC activities in San Francisco and the Bay Area.
While primarily concerned with operations in San Francisco, the Director participates in AIC-wide projects and activities related to program development, university relations, industry-area networking, and sharing best practices in experiential education.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Oversee all the activities of the AIC’s operations in San Francisco
- Provide internship placements and related services to undergraduate and graduate students of AIC partner universities.
- Consult and advise domestic and international students on their professional development by holding individual career assessment meetings as part of a personalized placement process.
- Conduct employer and internship sponsor outreach at various professional associations, career fairs, and networking events. Maintain and expand database of employer contact information.
- Develop, coordinate, and host workshops and presentations for students on resume and cover letter writing, interviewing techniques, internship professionalism and success, and workplace culture.
- Oversee delivery of program components such as housing, academic coursework and orientation activities.
- Maintain positive and productive relationships with AIC partner universities.
- Assist on market research and provide content for marketing and internship program materials.
Applicants should possess the following:

- Interest in experiential education and international education
- Strong research skills and close attention to detail
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point, FileMaker
- Excellent written and oral communication
- Strong cross-cultural awareness
- Ability to work autonomously and in small group situations
- Experience in sales or business development desired
- Knowledge of the Bay Area’s industry sectors
- Open to brief periods of domestic or international travel
- Can-do attitude and a sense of humor
