Overview:
The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) is an independent, international, nonprofit organization devoted to the advancement of interdisciplinary research in the social sciences through a wide variety of workshops and conferences, fellowships and grants, summer training institutes, scholarly exchanges, research, and publications.
The Development Manager/Officer is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Development Office with the goal of establishing a successful and sustainable development operation for the Social Science Research Council. Reporting to the President, the Development Manager/Officer is responsible for executing the campaign strategy under the direction of the Strategic Campaign Officer and engaging donors and volunteers with the organization on an ongoing basis.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree desirable.
- Minimum 3 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated success in achieving fundraising goals.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively leverage the time of senior management as well as demonstrated success in project management and analysis.
- High level of organization, self-motivation, and attention to detail, as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to relate well with other people.
- Capacity to clearly comprehend and communicate the SSRC’s mission and ongoing initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Strategic Campaign Officer to develop a strategic plan for the development operation.
- Help identify, cultivate, and solicit new major donors up to $250,000. Develop strategy for building a prospect pool.
- Develop and execute annual fund plan. Manage annual giving from Board of Directors and Visiting Committee members.
- Ensure proper gift processing, recording, and reporting.
- Develop, plan, and execute engagement events and communications.
- Develop and execute donor stewardship plan.
- Develop campaign materials and communication plan for print and web, and ensure consistency with SSRC messaging.
- Work with IT team to build out relationship management capacity of existing database, including documentation of contacts, gift processing, and reporting, or determine appropriate database for purchase and work with IT to implement.
- Manage development budget and expenses.
