Position: International Admissions Counselor

Job Duties:
50%: Respond to inquiries (walk-in, phone, email, and web-based), make presentations to individuals or groups of prospective students, and counsel prospective international students and their parents/academic counselors regarding the admissions process. Review educational credentials, financial documents, and English language proficiency for international undergraduate applicants for acceptance to the University; Make final admissions decisions. Correspond with and visit secondary schools and community colleges in order to inform counselors and students about the University and to solicit their interest; determines eligibility and certify admission. Liaise with overseas marketing representatives and other contacts with regard to international admissions and incoming students.
30%: Provide input into the development of key recruitment approaches and activities/events in the admission of high quality students. Assist in the coordination of multiple recruitment trips to foreign countries, including occasional travel domestically and/or internationally as necessary to promote UM-Flint programs. Represent the University at school and career fairs, open houses, and other events where prospective international students may be present. Organize recruitment and admissions events by the International Center including some evening and weekend work.
20%: Assist with ongoing development of policy and procedures to ensure that international admissions and enrollment are consistent with UM-Flint policy; Assist in the ongoing development of processing practices that ensure that UM-Flint processes inquiries, applications and enrollments in a time frame that ensures International Programs achieves enrollment targets. Collect and analyze admissions data and create periodic reports. Assist in the development of online and print marketing materials. Related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with more than one year experience working with international student admissions; experience in counseling with college-bound or college level international student populations; willingness and ability to travel internationally and domestically; strong intercultural awareness and competence; excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work within both a team and independently, recognize the importance of time sensitive deadlines and meet the demands of a high pressure office environment; enthusiasm for working with and advocating for a diverse international student body; ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations; demonstrate attention to details.

Experience working with international students or first- hand knowledge of the international student’s higher education experience. Basic immigration knowledge, fluency in one or more foreign languages; experience living and/or travelling abroad highly desirable. 2- 3 years prior admissions experience and knowledge of world educational systems highly desired. Working knowledge of SUNAPSIS, BANNER and EMAS
