The mission of the Global Business Center is to develop global business expertise by hosting and sponsoring outstanding international education initiatives. As home to one of only 33 federally-funded Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER), the GBC works in partnership with the U.S. Department of Education to contribute to international understanding and competitiveness.
We have an outstanding opportunity for a Program Manager, Undergraduate Global Programs to manage extracurricular programs and projects to build undergraduate global business expertise while fulfilling the global business education goals of the Foster School of Business and the federal mandates for the Center for International Business Education & Research (CIBER) grant program.
Key Duties:
Manage Holland America Line Global Business Case Competition, an annual undergraduate international business case competition for UW student teams
- Develop project timelines, objectives, work breakdown, and policies, and manage to them
- Develop and manage budget
- Work with corporate sponsor to engage them in the program, and design and write stewardship report
- Select and mentor volunteer student leaders, and help them acquire project management and leadership skills while supporting project delivery
- Oversee project logistics including orientation sessions, meals, day-long competition logistics, judge recruitment and preparation, awards ceremony, equipment/supplies, web page, and printed materials
- Coordinate additional faculty/staff involvement as needed to accomplish project objectives in areas of academic content, fundraising, corporate/community involvement, program content, media/public relations
- Oversee and participate in regular steering committee meetings with student leaders
- Maintain excellent and detailed project records
- Coordinate event evaluation and implementation of project improvements
Manage business school undergraduate inbound international exchange students
- Receive and process inbound student application materials and related documents • Develop and send acceptance materials to inbound students
- Lead inbound exchange student orientation
- Manage Foster School student Buddy Program, including marketing and recruiting Foster School students, training and pairing them with inbound students
- Host several inbound student events and activities to engage the international students more with our Foster School student population to increase cross-cultural learning
- Develop all materials for inbound students including Inbound Student Handbook
- Manage all inbound students and their needs from pre-arrival through return to their home countries, including course selection, registration, housing, and cultural inquiries
Support all business study abroad opportunities and international internships
- Coordinate with Assistant Director, Undergraduate Global Programs; Program Manager, Certificate of International Studies in Business (CISB), and UW Office of International Programs & Exchanges
- Partner with Assistant Director Undergraduate Global Programs to lead information sessions and workshops for outbound undergraduate students and other promotional events
- Advise any/all business school students interesting in studying abroad
- Provide direct support to Foster School faculty-led study abroad programs, including the Foster Exploration Seminars, and the Foster Rome Program.
- Possible travel on faculty-led programs as staff support
Support undergraduate international business events including Global Biz Week, the Global Business Case Competition, and speaker events
- Serve on the Steering Committee for the Global Business Case Competition
- Manage Global Business Case Competition technology and Welcome Day activities and events
- Participate in the planning committee for Global Biz Week, a full week of events designed to celebrate International Education Week and engage Foster School students in international business learning and networking with the global business community
- Research and promote opportunities for extracurricular global business education including study/work abroad, case competitions, community/campus events
Pilot and co-lead the Undergraduate Student Global Leaders Board
- Work with Assistant Director of Undergraduate Global Programs to pilot a student board in the 2014-2015 academic year
- Co-lead the quarterly board meetings
- Work with Global Business Advisory Board members to create business community mentorship program for our student board members
Provide general Global Business Center support
- Support major Global Business Center team events/projects including competitions and fundraising proposals
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in international relations, business, or related field.
- At least three years program/project/event management experience in a business or nonprofit organization.
- Customer service expertise and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and initiative.
- Ability to be an effective member of a team while independently managing projects and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation/public speaking skills.
- Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
- Extensive experience working with people from different cultures and/or overseas living/work experience.
- Educational institution/university and study abroad work experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with students, faculty, alumni, staff and members of the international business and non-profit communities.
