Job Duties:
The Penn Abroad Program Manager administers Penn-approved undergraduate study abroad programs for an assigned portfolio. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: advising undergraduate students interested in studying abroad, application management, coordinating participant selection, collaborating with relevant academic and administrative offices both on-campus and abroad, preparing budget sheets, initiating student account billing and adjustments, initiating payment requests, data collection and analysis, on-campus recruitment, and publicity. S/he conducts pre-departure programming for outbound students, provides personal and administrative support for students while abroad, and participates in post-experience programming for recently returned students. S/he serves as administrative liaison to selected advisory committees: preparing background material for discussion and writing reports. S/he provides administrative support and special programming activities to incoming exchange students. S/he may contribute to the coordination and management of international internships and/or other short-term programming. Other projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree is required, Master’s preferred, and two to three years’ experience in study abroad advising and program management, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrates proven experience in effective advising and excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills. Commitment to student service and ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and university representatives from different cultural backgrounds; extensive experience working, studying, or traveling abroad desirable; regional expertise in the United Kingdom, Latin America, and/or Sub-Saharan Africa preferred; proficiency in one language other than English spoken in any of the above-mentioned regions preferred; familiarity with higher education in other countries; excellent judgment and ability to deal with difficult situations; ability to work as a member of a team and under pressure. A willingness to travel and represent University of Pennsylvania views, standards, and policies with authority and personal conviction; interest in professional development; and familiarity with computer applications for a study abroad office.
