Overview:
This position will serve as senior international admissions counselor for graduate and undergraduate degree-seeking international students. They will deliver a customer focused admissions service to prospective international students on all aspects of admission requirements, policies, procedures and entry pathways. Manage the recruitment process from inquiry to matriculation. Provide leadership, together with the Director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) and VP of Enrollment, in developing and implementing the annual strategic recruitment and retention plan for international students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Implement international student recruitment strategies locally and internationally for undergraduate and graduate students in accordance with the strategic recruitment and retention plan (about 20% domestic and international travel).
- Produce the desired yield of international admits to matriculants as articulated in the annual recruitment plan.
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for the F-1 Student Program with regard to issuance of initial entry or transfer I-20 forms for both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Determine admission/denial decisions and award designated academic scholarships according to admissions policies for international undergraduate degree-seeking and transfer students.
- Manage telephone and face-to-face inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Serve as liaison to external partnerships established to strengthen the college’s international recruitment efforts, including independent educational consultants and/or agents.
- Market to international students locally and internationally.
- Establish and maintain active communication with prospective international students and their families to advise students on the visa application and interview process.
- Liaison with international academic credential evaluators to determine degree and/or credit equivalencies for prospective students.
- Ensure an effective communication flow and transition during the admissions process between incoming international students and other campus services.
- Hire, train and manage student assistant(s) for international student recruitment.
- Monitor and analyze relevant data to achieve enrollment targets and evaluate strategies.
- Participate in the development of cross-divisional initiatives designed to increase the recruitment and retention of prospective international students.
- Participate in evaluation of institutional policies and procedures affecting non-native English speaking students, in particular those on F-1 and/or other nonimmigrant visas.
- Support ongoing development of alumni networks for international student recruitment.
Requirements:
- Ability and interest to independently organize and carry out domestic and international recruitment travel as indicated in the annual international recruitment plan (approximately 20% of time).
- Ability to provide effective intercultural leadership in a multicultural setting.
- Working knowledge of SEVIS and F-1 regulations; knowledge of other student-eligible non-immigrant visa categories a plus.
- Experience collecting and using data to guide decision-making.
- Familiarity with and adherence to NAFSA’s Statement of Ethical Principles
- Effective management and use of a wide range of social media.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
- Ability to reason and analyze.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to show initiative; multi-task and organize workflow; manage one or more multiple projects; and handle frequent interruptions.
- Ability to attend to details with accuracy and precision.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license and passport, and must be a US citizen or a U.S. lawful permanent resident (U.S. Green Card Holder).
- Fluency in a second language such as Mandarin, Arabic, Spanish or Portuguese is preferred.
- Content Relationship Management (CRM) Systems familiarity is preferred; knowledge of HOBSONS RADIUS a plus.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in college admissions/recruitment, sales and customer service; OR minimum three years of experience in related work in the field of international education or requiring intercultural leadership in a multicultural setting; OR a combination of minimum three years in any of the above areas.
