Overview:

Central College is a provider of a high-quality, high impact study abroad program in Bangor for Central students and those from other colleges and universities across the country. Students have access to the full range of classes at Bangor University and its student organizations and most also enroll in its outdoor pursuits program. Guided field trips and excursions enhance the cultural course common to all of the students.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a Master’s degree in a relevant field with a minimum of 3 years relevant professional experience in the UK. It is necessary to be knowledgeable about Welsh culture and language and have immediate eligibility to work in Wales. The preferred candidate will have experience with U.S. systems of higher education.

Responsibilities:

The Resident Director is responsible to the Associate Dean for Global Education for directing all aspects of the college’s Wales Program and works in close collaboration with the Director of Study Abroad in Pella, Iowa. The program hosts students from Central College and partner colleges and universities on semester and summer programs in Bangor, Wales. The Director teaches the common course and has oversight of academic programming, internship placements, curriculum, advising, registration, and grading processes. The Director oversees students’ housing arrangements, plans cultural programs, field trips and excursions, and facilitates contact with host country locals. The Director is responsible to monitor student welfare and safety, maintaining communication with the Central campus and managing situations in the event of an emergency. Other responsibilities include administration of the program budget, maintaining accurate financial records and monthly expense reports, and acting as liaison between Central College and the local community on legal and financial matters. The successful Director will strengthen current healthy relationships with our affiliate university and other organizations, and help coordinate the exchange with Bangor University, including the annual pre-departure orientation for Bangor students coming to Central. The Director will also assist the Central College study abroad office with recruitment, advising, and pre-departure processes for students coming to Bangor
