Overview:
The Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement at Mary Baldwin College is pleased to announce that are now hiring an Assistant Director of our center. The Assistant Director will oversee study abroad programs, assist with international student services and work to “globalize” our campus.
Mary Baldwin College, founded in 1842, a liberal arts institution located in Staunton, Virginia is inviting applications for the Assistant Director of the Spencer Center for Civic and Global Engagement. We are seeking a professional who will facilitate student community and global engagement by:
- Overseeing all aspects of the Mary Baldwin College study abroad program including student advisement, collaboration with faculty and campus departments, communication with study abroad providers, coordination of scholarships and student preparation;
- Ensuring effective Spencer Center administration and communication through oversight of campus-wide communication, student workers, and data-tracking;
- Supporting International students through orientation programming and student advisor coordination; and
- Initiating efforts to “globalize” the campus through international scholars, inter-cultural programs, lecture series and college-wide theme education efforts.
A Bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience working in a higher education setting is required; A Master’s degree in student affairs, international education or related field preferred. Experience studying, working or teaching abroad is desirable. Fluency in or familiarity with a second language preferred. Must possess knowledge and understanding of civic engagement and study abroad programming and literature. Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies including a diverse student body. This position requires strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks. The candidate will be expected to work collaboratively to anticipate and solve problems thoughtfully and resourcefully. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel) and email software a must. Knowledge of social media tools and resources is preferred.
