Overview:

Presbyterian College is seeking an enthusiastic, globally-minded individual to assist with Carol International House (CIH), an international living-learning community. CIH is home to 30 residents on two floors and features classroom and community spaces as well as a fully-equipped kitchen and computer lab. The international house seeks to engage the college community of 1,300 students with internationally-themed programs planned and presented by residents of the house. Presbyterian College is a private, residential, liberal arts college in a small-town setting in upstate South Carolina. Many students live out the College motto Dum Vivimus Servimus or “While we live, we serve” by engaging in service and volunteer projects locally, domestically, and internationally.

Expectations and responsibilities:
The CIH/International Programs Intern will be responsive to the goals and objectives of the Office of International Programs (OIP) as well as the Office of Community Life. The primary focus is the development of an environment that is conducive to developing and fostering an international awareness in connection with the personal and educational growth of students living in the International House. The person in this position will encourage a sense of community while striving to help each student develop his/her potential as a person, student and member of the international house.

Specifically, the Intern is expected to work cooperatively and supportively with the International Programs and Community Life staff to perform the following duties:

Carol International House:

  • Assist in planning initial welcome and orientation.
  • Facilitate teamwork among resident groups and encourage student active involvement and responsibility for group tasks.
  • Plan, schedule and conduct house meetings.
  • Be regularly available and visible to students and meet regularly with individual residents and groups to explain and promote policies and programs, assess needs and community goals, learn of ideas or concerns, and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Coordinate, plan, develop, implement and evaluate a balance of international and developmental activities (under the supervision of the Director of International Programs).
  • Foster the connection between CIH and the PC campus by assisting in promotion of CIH events and news and identifying and collaborating with student leaders, staff and faculty who support CIH.

Community Life

  • Be available for duty coverage and programming.
  • Utilize and cooperate with campus security, maintenance, emergency services and other college units as necessary.

International Programs:

  • Work with OIP staff to market and promote study abroad programs.
  • Assist in planning and delivering orientations for study abroad and international students.
  • Cooperate in event planning for International Education Week during the fall semester.
  • Assist in addressing international student concerns.
  • Administrative duties as necessary.

  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Publisher)
  • Intercultural / international experience
