Overview:

UCEAP is seeking a Resident Director (RD) to provide leadership and oversight of our Beijing academic exchange programs. The UCEAP Beijing Study Center, located on the campus of Peking University, provides year-round academic and student welfare support to approximately 100 UC participants annually at three partner institutions in Beijing.

The RD is responsible for managing the full range of academic, administrative, and student life matters inherent within education abroad programs including orientation, internships, academic advising, student conduct, health and safety, cultural adjustment, strategic initiatives, and management of local study center operations, its staff and operating budget.  The RD serves as the local UCEAP representative with Beijing partner universities, government agencies, and other organizations, and is UCEAP’s primary onsite liaison between the host institutions, UCEAP, and the students.  Reports to the system-wide office Regional Director and also works in consultation with the Shanghai UC Faculty Director regarding academic matters. 
Qualifications:
• Minimum of five years of experience in higher education program administration or equivalent combination of training and work experience.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities to manage a broad range of operational, academic and student welfare and conduct issues.
• Knowledge of emergency planning to respond to safety, security and health issues as they affect students abroad.
• Ability to think creatively and use sound judgment and decision making skills under pressure.
• Willingness and ability to work independently and to respond effectively and timely within a consultative academic environment.
• Fluency in Mandarin and English with strong professional writing/speaking skills required.
• In depth knowledge of Chinese and U.S. cultures and higher educational systems.
• M.A. in related field required.
• Satisfactory completion of a background check is required

Preferred: 
PhD in a related field. Experience in higher education program administration at a senior level preferably in the field of study abroad. Prior teaching experience. Experience with QuickBooks financial software or equivalent database.
