Overview:
The Bing Overseas Studies Program (BOSP) at Stanford University is seeking qualified candidates for a Program Assistant position for our center in Paris, France. This is a one-year, fixed term position beginning in September 2014 and ending August 31, 2015.
Stanford University is one of the world’s leading research and teaching institutions and is known for its entrepreneurial character and its relationship to Silicon Valley. Areas of excellence range from the humanities to social sciences to engineering and the sciences.
The BOSP Paris office is comprised of 4 employees who serve an average of 40 students per quarter. As part of the Bing Overseas Studies Program in Paris, you will help students as they encounter French culture through classes taught in French, work in internships, complete research and take field trips, all of which make use of the rich resources of the city. The BOSP Paris center is located inside one of the city’s most prestigious engineering schools, which leads to joint projects, activities and lively conversations between Stanford and local students. Students in the Paris program live with host families, and commit to speaking only French while enrolled in the program.
Description:
The Program Assistant will help guide and ease the arrival of new students and visiting faculty to Paris, while also gaining working knowledge of French educational and employment environments, as well as an opportunity to improve fluency in French.
The Program Assistant is responsible for providing general administrative, technical, and student services support.
- Prepare visiting faculty’s stay in Paris, including correspondence prior to arrival and translation of documents when needed.
- Perform office duties including, but not limited to, handling of incoming and outgoing mail, entering data, reports, or spreadsheets, making copies, and monitoring and ordering of office supplies.
- Communicate weekly, and through social networks about program activities, meetings, and events, including those with external partners
- Arrange routine conferences including managing equipment, ordering meals and assembling materials.
Qualification:
Education and Experience
- Four-year college degree or two years equivalent experience including faculty assistance, student services, office administration, library management and academic support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Near-native French language proficiency, both oral and written
- An advanced level of fluent English skills both oral and written to enable effective communications with those whose primary language is English
- Proficiency with computers required
- Understanding of France and French business practice
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines in an office environment characterized by service-oriented flexibility, workload fluctuations, and variable planning time
Conditions:
- This is a one year fixed term position
- Salary will be commensurate with experience.
- At the time of hire must be legally authorized to work in France.
- Must comply with all visa, work authorization, and tax related laws and regulations as a condition of employment.
- Position is benefits eligible subject to applicable France/US laws, regulations and Stanford University policy.
