Overview:
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Programs, the Director of International and Academic Initiatives is responsible for coordinating and managing the Elliott School’s international programs and academic initiatives. The Director will be responsible for the oversight of the international education office within the school, consisting of developing partnerships with international universities and effective targeted marketing and recruitment of international students. The director will coordinate and manage the implementation of the Elliott School’s curriculum, course offerings and academic program reviews.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in an appropriate area of specialization plus six years of experience. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Desired Qualifications:
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration, student services, or a related field.
- Effective communication, cross-cultural skills, strong computer skills, and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of international affairs curricula and international student exchange programs is preferred.
- Knowledge of strategies to recruit international students is preferred.
- Effective marketing skills are preferred.
Job Duties
- Academic Programs Duties and Responsibilities:
-Coordinates and manages the Elliott School curriculum and course offerings, and serves as liaison with relevant Columbian College departments. Maintains curriculum database and records.
-Develops, manages and implements academic schedules for summer, fall, and spring undergraduate and graduate courses by serving as the principal liaison with the university’s Academic Scheduling Office and other academic units.
-Oversees the course evaluation process and program reviews.
-Manages content for the Elliott School web pages related to academic programs and course offerings. - International Initiatives Duties and Responsibilities:
-Manages partnerships with universities overseas, including developing processes for recruiting and exchanging students, identifying necessary policy changes, sharing information with partners, receiving visitors and representing the Elliott School as necessary.
-Evaluates curricula at partner institutions and works with faculty to identify equivalent courses at the Elliott School and courses that can apply to Elliott School degree requirements. In consultation with the Associate Dean, works with faculty to develop summer abroad courses.
-Advises incoming students from partner universities about policies and procedures at the Elliott School, and advises Elliott School graduate students regarding study abroad opportunities. Supervises work with students on providing English Language resources, Foreign Language Testing and Assessment, and tutoring services. This may include working closely with GW Office of Study Abroad.
-Works with graduate and undergraduate units to develop initiatives for international students enrolled in the Elliott School of International Affairs. - Other duties as needed
