Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
- Manage the undergraduate and graduate admissions process of inbound (international) study abroad students (both exchange and non-exchange)
- Provide academic advisement to same
- Maintain records of exchange balances and incoming participants
- Liaise with Student Accounts to facilitate tuition remission and payment of fees for exchange students and facilitate payments from students or sponsors for incoming study abroad students
- Maintain relations with Advisement Services Center and academic units to identify and obtain spaces in courses needed by inbound study abroad students Facilitate the pre-registration into UAlbany courses for inbound study abroad students
- Coordinate with Residential Life the placement of inbound students in university residences halls
- Provide information to partner institutions and agents to support their recruitment efforts
- Manage the receipt and recording of grades for outbound study abroad students, prepare SUNY overseas transcript supplements, and file with the Albany Registrar or other SUNY study abroad offices
- Manage the admission of visiting study abroad students and the registration process for all students on Albany or other SUNY study abroad programs, coordinating with the Registrar, Student Accounts, and Undergraduate and Graduate Studies as needed
- Verify enrolments of Albany students on other SUNY programs and other SUNY students on Albany programs and coordinate with the Assistant Director for Finance to facilitate the timely transfer of tuition per SUNY Consortium procedures
- Liaise with the Registrar and Withdrawal and Reentry to maintain record of students studying abroad outside the SUNY Study Abroad Consortium
Secondary Duties:
- Promote scholarship opportunities for overseas study (Fulbright, Gilman, Boren, Fund for Education Abroad, etc.), to UAlbany students and manage the application and review processes when required by the sponsoring agency
- Manage the post study abroad or exchange evaluation process for both inbound and outbound students
- Research and adopt available tools or develop tools for assessment, and implementing an assessment procedure to gauge the impact of a study abroad experience on participants
- Administer the National Student Exchange (NSE) and advise inbound and outbound NSE participants
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization
- Experience advising college students
- Prior experience in administration in a higher education setting
- Ability to understand and counsel students from highly varied cultures and education systems
- Demonstrated ability to manage tasks under tight deadlines
- Experience working or studying outside the United States
Preferred Qualification:
- Experience teaching at the college level
