Position: Education Marketing Intern

Salary: $35,576 – $41,623 DOE

Overview:

The City University of New York (CUNY) is the nation’s leading urban public university serving more than 480,000 students in a wide range of educational programs at 24 colleges and institutions in New York City.  The International Student Coordinator is responsible for performing various tasks associated with facilitating the admission of students into the International English Language Institute (IELI) including visa and passport related issues, work authorizations, and admission applications.

Duties:

  • Assists and advises international students on immigration and related issues
  • Advises new and continuing international students on immigration procedures, registration, change of status, leave of absence, and other issues; facilitates immigration paperwork and data processing
  • Processes information in related systems such as SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Immigration System) and I-1440 databases related to student activities; assists in maintaining student records and creating related reports
  • Maintains up-to-date information on regulations, policies and practices (internal and external) pertaining to international students
  • Assists in organizing orientation programs, cross-cultural events, and informational workshops
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Provide admissions counseling for prospective and admitted students including completing and submitting applications for students’ visas and change of immigration status abroad and in the U.S.
  • Maintain SEVIS database and ensure accurate data input to SEVIS.
  • Act as a Designated School Official for US immigration matters.
  • Supervise and train College Assistants who staff IELI Foreign Students’ Information/Application office/telephone lines.
  • Manage and update student records.
  • Create and coordinate I-20 visas and send I-20 forms to students in order to be used to apply for an F-1 visa at a United States Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
  • Assist in preparing orientation packages for new students.
  • Coordinate and process transfer requests.
  • Interpret and discuss INS requirements with students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:

– At least two years of full-time foreign student advising experience preferred
– Knowledge of U.S Immigration, Visa and Passport information/requirements and SEVIS ideal
– Designated school official status desired
– Bilingual skills in Chinese, Japanese, or Thai preferred
– Experience with NAFSA preferred
