Overview:
Undergraduate Education provides students and instructors with resources that promote academic excellence and student success. The Office of Undergraduate Education serves as the central administration for a number of organizational units across campus that enhances the undergraduate student experience.
Job Duties:
Under general supervision, reporting to the Assistant Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (AVP/UE), the Educational Initiatives Coordinator will develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate initiatives and programs for (1) Faculty-Led Summer Study Abroad Programs and (2) Undergraduate Research Programs.
The Faculty-Led Summer Study Abroad (SSA) program at U.C. Riverside offers students short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs designed to keep students on academic track in an international setting. Working closely with faculty, staff, and international study abroad service providers, the Coordinator will assist in the development of academic courses (e.g., major and general education courses) and develop relevant procedures for program implementation (e.g., emergency management, student contracts). The incumbent conducts student recruitment, develops and leads student workshops, coordinates program logistics and participates in campus-wide meetings related to study abroad. The Coordinator will develop and implement evaluation plans to determine program success.
The Undergraduate Research Programs support a variety of programs allowing students to attain a high proficiency in undergraduate research, scholarship and creative activity. Working with the university faculty to develop and support new courses on applied research methods in the community, the incumbent will recruit students, coordinate program activities and logistics, initiate and foster relationships with faculty, staff, local community organizations and governmental agencies to increase student participation in undergraduate research activities, participate in campus-wide meetings related to undergraduate research and community engagement. Develop and implement evaluation plans to determine program success.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Humanities, Education or related discipline and significant experience as a professional or advanced professional-level student affairs officer or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of college education and experience
- Three-Five years of professional-level experience working in Academic or Student Affairs developing student programs and services for an institute of higher learning (or an equivalent organization).
- Demonstrated project management skills with proven ability to effectively plan, organize, problem solve, and analyze; leading or working with a team; managing complex calendar; prioritizing workload; meeting deadlines and program objectives; bring a project from conceptualization through implementation and final program evaluation.
- Proven and effective interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work well and engage with diverse groups, build and foster relationships, promote organizational interests and ideas amongst students, faculty, academic administrators, service organizations and community partners.
- Proven and effective writing and reporting skills demonstrating the ability to draft complex analyses, memos, reports and correspondence; develop presentations; create web-content; use of proper grammar and writing technique.
- Proven presentation skills demonstrating the ability to develop, plan, implement, and lead outreach events and activities, workgroups, and marketing events related to recruitment, programs and initiatives.
- Ability to identify and communicate issues to appropriate audiences, demonstrating skill at identifying issues to be communicated, appropriate methods, audience, and timing for communication.
- Ability to comprehend complex documents (e.g., contracts, proposals, policies); demonstrating the ability to interpret and communicate terms and policy information clearly and accurately to others.
- Proven ability to work independently, with a high degree of independence, following through on assignments, setting priorities and delegating tasks to accurately reflect importance and job responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in relevant field (Social Sciences, Humanities, Education or related discipline).
- Experience advising, studying, working or living abroad, in a foreign country.
- Coursework in research methodology (quantitative or qualitative)
