Overview:
The Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne is seeking a Political and Economic Research Analyst. Reporting to Japanese Consuls, the successful candidate will examine issues related to Australian political and economic affairs, and discharge other related duties as required.

Primary Accountabilities:
a) Analysis and preparation of reports on relevant political and economic issues. Monitoring the media and important press releases to keep watch of important political and economic events.
b) Liaison with various government departments and other bodies.
c) General support to Consuls, including arranging meetings and drafting correspondence.
d) Preparation of speeches and letters.
e) Other duties as required.
f) Working at consulate events.

Key Selection Criteria:
1. Detailed knowledge of Australian political and economic systems.
2. Demonstrated research skills including highly-developed written and oral communication skills and administrational ability.
3. Ability to perform effectively within a team environment.
4. Demonstrated diplomacy skills, capable of maintaining working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds. The capacity to show courtesy and tact at all times.
5. English fluency.
6. High standards of trustworthiness, discretion and a firm understanding of the privacy required within a diplomatic mission.
7. Ability to coordinate and manage events.
8. Public speaking skills.

Desired Attributes:
1. Japanese language ability
2. Experience working with Japanese people
